You didn't hear about all the warnings in the media about not doing that??
They even warned about looking at it with just sunglasses.
The media have been stressing for days the risk of permanent damage if you look directly at the Sun even with a filter. (Anything short of a welding mask in fact.)
I hope that isn't the case for you...

you wouldnt have seen it anyway just staring into the sun, would have been to bright to see with the naked eye.

Its dangerous to stare at the sun at anytime with no protection, you may not see any difference or feel any difference now, but its well known that staring into the sun with no protection causes permanent damage in the long run.

Looked a lot more interesting on the telescopes set up here...

One telescope appeared to have a red filter on it, and you could see a bit of texture on the sun and some prominences on the circumference. Some of these prominences were comparable in size (on the image) to Venus - and would thus be larger than Venus (and Earth) in actual size.

The other telescope appeared to have no colour filter, but was zoomed in a little more closely. You could make out sunspots as well as Venus.

Well I enjoyed it! :-B

Oh yeah I would have enjoyed being able to view it live. Awesome experience but I never had the opportunity. I will try to be closer to a telescope in 2017

"Its dangerous to stare at the sun at anytime with no protection",
I took your advice but the neighbours called the cops. They wanted to know why I was standing in the street with nothing on but a condom. I told them I was checking out Uranus! (I think I got the planets mixed up)
