Lesser known players include Richard Anderson, James Pyke, and Jerry D'Antochia.

Two of our best recruits in the 15 yrs would be Troy Clements and Todd Davey.

Richard Anderson could have been the best what happened to him ?

Yeah I think that was right mate, and REB is correct, that bloke could have been anything.

Others we didn't see for long enough included Andrew Aish and Rick Neagle.

Yep, good memory you've got there Hondo, Matty Kelly in particular had pace, played tall, good kick and ran in straight lines, and would have had an impressive AFL career IMHO.

Tim McNeil was another we didn't see enough of.

Come to think of it, did the SANFL have a Team of the Century? :-k

I don't think the SANFL ever did one.

Not a team of the century but this a "Best SA Team since the war" as chosen in August 1994 by Fos Williams, Bob Hank, Jim Deane, Bo Morton, John Halbert and Merv Agars. All five picked their 21 and then the final team was made up from that.
Achievements in the VFL/AFL were obviously taken into consideration.

F - Rick Davies (St); Malcolm Blight(W); Bob Quinn (PA)
HF- Lindsay Head (WT); Stephen Kernahan (G); Bob Hank (WT)
C - Ken Eustice(WA,CD,G); Russell Ebert (PA); John Cahill (PA)
HB- Don Taylor (WA,G); Len Fitzgerald (St); Geof Motley(PA)
B - Brenton Adcock (St); Ian McKay (NA); Neil Kerley (WA,SA,G)
R - Peter Darley (SA); Barrie Robran (NA); John Platten (CD)
(I - Shaun Rehn (WA); Jim Deane (SA); Paul Bagshaw (St))
Coach - Fos Williams (WA,PA.SA)

If the team was purely on SANFL achievements you have to think that Rehn, Blight, Platten and Kernahan's spots would be under the microscope.

Found this on Full Points Footy.

South Oz born players only and between 1901 - 2000

SANFL Team of the Century

F - Paul Bagshaw (St) - Ken Farmer (NA) - Bob Quinn (PA)
HF - Malcolm Blight (W, NM) - Barrie Robran (NA) - Bob Hank (WT)
C - Shine Hosking (PA) - Russell Ebert (PA, NM) - John Cahill (PA, SA)
HB - Walter Scott (N) - Dan Moriarty (SA) - Jack Hamilton (NA, SUB, WA)
B - Jack Tredrea (SA) - Ian McKay (St. George, NA) - Bernie Smith (WA, GEEL)
Rucks - Tom Leahy (WA, NA) - Neil Kerley (WA, SA, GL , CAPT) - John Platten (CD, HAWTH)
INT - Peter Darley (SA) - Harold Oliver (PA) - Tom Mackenzie (WT, NA) - Phil Matson (WP, St, Nth Freo, SUB, East Perth) - Lindsay Head (WT) - Ron Phillips (NA)

Coach Fos WIlliams (PA, SA, WA)

Got to admit there are a few surprises in that team.

So there you have it, Blighty or Bob Hank is the best HFF in the history of SANFL.

Either way the Eagles lads will be satisfied.

Not a bad team, I don't have an issue with most selections, I'd probably have Linday Head ahead of Bob Hank and I am suprised that Len Fitzgerald isn't there, I'd prefer Eustice to Kerley too.

Phil Matson, WTF ? played for a few WA clubs and sturt, couldn't even make Sturts team of the Century.

Did they pick him because of his interstate achievements?

Got no idea.

Fair enough about the being born in South Oz (I missed that  ) but I think its a bit unfair as Len regarded himself as South Australian.

I can only assume Graham Cornes was in the Victorian team missing out on the SA team since he was born in Vic?

Born in Port Adelaide 22 October 1884, but you are correct Smithy, about his WA achievements

I think the criteria is a bit odd.
I mean, its the SANFL team of the century, not the south australian team of the century.
If you've played in the SANFL and you're good enough no matter where you come from you should be in.

Cornesy wouldn't make ours or Victoria's, but I think Len would.

Just looked up Phil Matson.. His selection is an utter joke.. OK he was born in SA, but he played only 24 games for Sturt before spending the rest of his short life being a mercenary player and a very successful coach in the WAFL .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phillip_Matson

makes a joke of the SANFL team of the century.

Barrie Robran would disagree with you, he actually rates Cornsey as in the best 5 players he's ever seen play SANFL.
