Agree, string 2 or 3 wins together and they will fly up the table

South, Sturt, West, Glenelg & North for the next five.

Not beyond the realms of possibility for the Eagles to win all of those five

I still stick by my comment from last week that the Eagles could well be 5 and 5.

Well given you need 13 wins to finish with a double chance typically (given the Eagles low percentage they will need that many) they will have to win to win 12 of their remaining 14 games and they have to to play Norwood again twice and Centrals once so that may be difficult, assuming they don't drop another game elsewhere.

Realistically 5th to 4th at the end of the minor round is their best option.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

That is correct the Eagles finished 3rd last year with 13 wins but they only needed 10 wins to finish ahead of the bays on 9.5 wins.
Unfortunately I don't see that the Bays or any other teams have improved that much so 10 or 11 wins will be enough.

They will be only 2 games off of 3rd after round 8.

How about we chat again after the Eagles have won a couple more matches ... relying on 6 teams above them to implode at the same time seems a tad fanciful to the untrained eye.

That would mean the Eagles haven't gone backwards, but the evidence doesn't support that.

One win probably highlights just how much ground is to be made up for the Eagles, especially in percentage.

Agreed that besides Norwood no one else is really taking the competition by storm this year. ( I know West are 2nd, happy to upgrade my rating of the Bloods if they perform on Friday Night).

I suspect Central will also claim a double chance, but as for the 3rd spot it's open slather.

Eagles season is still on a knife edge and will be with any defeat in the next 4-5 games.

ie lose Sunday and they are back to 1-6 and probably 3 wins+ big % out of the top five.

Win and they are 2-5, with some momentum to take into a 3 week break.

Agree with the first point but not the second. Just one loss in the next 4-5 weeks would actually be positive in my view. They could scrap to be 6 and 6 and right back in the mix. Even and 5 and 7 they're still in with a show.

We are gone for 2012 and I have come to terms with it now. The club needs to look ahead to 2013, do a big clean out through the club and most importantly RECRUIT WELL.

Given we have nothing in the reserves we will need to look elsewhere in order to recruit the following:

- a key position forward with height and weight (rather than a stick like Staple)
- a midfielder with SPEED, in particular a rover
- a ruckman

Money should not be a problem given
- Macca will no longer be with us
- we need to terminate Eddy's contract as he is a complete dud
- Cicca & possibly Shirley will retire

I cannot think of too many in our team who will qualify as an import aside from Eddy who needs to be cut. Therefore we should not be bound by that rule.

So the recruiters need to be studying the papers of all the State leagues (as well as country leagues). Who is leading the goal kicking? Who is regularly in the best players? Who are the highest possession getters? Who won the club B&F? Who won the Magarey equivalent? Pay for a $200 flight or get the recruiter to drive over and watch a couple of their games. We want players in the mid-20 age range who are less likely to be interested in AFL but may be interested in a better league. They may not be interested but AT LEAST TRY APPROACHING THEM!!!!

Some good points MR Fuller.
Staple is the ideal third forward, and this is shown by how much better we look when Redden is in the side.
Think you are being a bit hard on Eddy, will reserve my view there as he has been unlucky with injury, and last year Hall, Tiller and Raymond all spent time in the 2's last year.
However, Eddy, from the brief moments I've seen, doesn't help our pace problems, with him, Shirley, Rowntree and Powell all seeming about the same speed. Rowntree is obviously the successor to Powell as the working-class midfielder, so that is covered, but as you said, we need speed around it.

Beat Glenelg and the season is alive again. West aren't the worst team going around and no disgrace to be beaten by them.

I still think Raymond should be tried in the forward line. If Grocke didn't kick 7 in the State game you'd question his output. Easily his worst season since he's been at the Eagles IMO. Doesn't look right, but maybe it is the way it is being delivered and the structure we have... he did kick 7 last week!

Unfortunately, there will be 8 other teams looking for similar players. It's the same every year! These guys just don't grow on trees...

Only 2 games out of the Five aren't they?
Everyone making it sound like they are 10 games out.
They only need to string a couple of wins together and they are right in the mix, still too early to write anyone off as Sturt showed today
