AFL's Most Improved Player

Postby OnSong » Thu May 31, 2012 3:27 pm

I think it's time the AFL introduced a "Most Improved Player" award.
With this in mind, I'm holding a poll for the most improved player in the league, as adjudged by the experts on SA Footy.
I've had a crack at picking a fair cross-section of players and you can vote for three of those selections, if you so wish.

Has to be Paddy Dangerfield, he has gone from moderately performed player to the greatest player to have ever pulled on a boot in the space of four or five games.

He's got my vote :D

But yes, looking through that list, it would be a hard call to make

Surely big Ivan. Couldn't get a game at the crows, now close to the AA ruckman after 9 rounds. Long way to go though to judge it!

I've voted for Kennedy, Dangerfield and Rance.

Kennedy was brownlow favourite 4 rounds in, and considering hawthorn chopped him he has played some remarkable games since crossing to sydney.

Rance is one thats played a big part in the "resurgence" of richmond, and is developing into a very reliable backman. Disposal was iffy for him early on but that looks to have improved and is becoming a very good player.

Danger was always talented, the right coach playing him in the right position and giving him a licence to hunt the footy has seen him blossom this year. Has the potential to be an elite midfielder.

I only voted for two, Maric & Danger. Only two votes because my third would be Sam Jacobs and he's not listed

Been impressed with Jacobs but IMO Giles and Maric have shown far more overall improvement.

Just realised I don't have a Port player in there. Any candidates? Brad Ebert?

IMO Kennedy showed he was at this level last year so his improvement hasnt been in 2012 so to speak. Scott Selwood probably doesnt get recognised enough being over in Perth.

I went

Danger - WOW exploded this year
Selwood - thought he was a badger but really taken it to a new level
Hawkins - realised he was a monster in the GF last year and hasnt looked back

next would be
Giles, Maric and Rance (still dont rate him as he is fumbly and capable of the terrible)

I reckon Jaensch has been close to the Crows biggest improver this year.

I couldn't go past Kennedy, had elevated himself from OK to good in recent seasons, but he's at elite level now.
