Match Report Saturday’s game was one played in 2 halves. Both sides took a while to settle down and the first quarter was marred with many mistakes and inaccuracy in front of goal. It was however a close contest that kept the crowd interested with Hahndorf seeming in control for most of the first half and at half time led by 10 points. After play resumed Hahndorf scored 2 quick goals and had edged out to a 23 point lead at the 10 minute mark when a fine individual effort from Lobethal’s Russell Veenuleit saw him single handedly win the ball from the centre bounce and carry the ball deep into the Lobethal forward line where big forward Matt Coad marked and scored the first of his 3 goals for the quarter. Lobethal were ignited by this and had by three quarter time regained a 9 point lead. Hahndorf suddenly had no answers and worse was to come for the Magpies in the last quarter as Lobethal’s big recruit full forward Dion Hibberd who had been well held to 5 goals by Paul Bowman suddenly exploded and added 7 goals in the last quarter to finish with 12. Coach Gary Carlson as expected was disappointed with the last half fade out and will look for answers at training this week buoyed by the fact that a couple of key players may return to the team for this week clash with Bridgewater. We just seemed to stop doing the things that had put us in a winning position Carlson said after the game, the run stopped and some bad habits reappeared. It will take a bit of time to get used to playing the new style of game for 100 minutes Carlson said, I understand that, but to see defeat snatched from the jaws of victory was very disappointing.

Match Report The preparation to the reserves season has had a few hiccups with appointed coach Tim Lawrence accepting a Junior Development role with the AFL in Alice Springs starting in that role on May 1st. Past coach Graeme Sinclair has stepped back into the role as reserves coach at the 11th hour and his first issue was to fill the team which started the week with 16 players. Past premiership players Tim Whittaker, Adam Zweck, Ryan Easton, Chris Brown and Leon Maxwell answered the call and although all lacked match practice contributed to the team’s effort with Whittaker finishing with 2 goals and Maxwell and Zweck among the best players. Others to play well were Trent Colman, Chris Trapp returning from 12 months overseas and Matthew Jamieson in his first game for the club. I don’t take losing very well Sinclair said but considering Saturday’s game was almost a trial for much of the side and the fact that we outscored the opposition in the 2nd half there were some positives to take from the game. And like the junior coaches the performance of those new to senior ranks including a couple of Senior Colts who stepped up was very encouraging he said
Good work Maggie!
I must say, one of the better players to run around for the pies in recent times must be Mark Buzz Stansborough. He is a class above the rest, always gets plenty of touches and has a great left foot. Have you heard word on how he is travelling at the moment. Must be reasonably fit if he was best on ground on the weekend.
I also reckon he should've polled better in the mail medal last year. I guess his teammates let him down and they don't win enough games.
Any word on Alfie Stephens??
Also, tips this week.
Blackwood by a point over Lobey. Will be a cracker of a game
Hahndorf to beat bridgey by 4 goal
Uri's to win by 30+ goals
Lofty to win by under 2 goal
Barker to beat Ironbank by 1 goal in a slog of a game
