Which bricks? Ones in your head or in the box?

I would suggest there's a big difference between stopping yourself running into coach's boxes, where you can use the turf to slow your pace, and running onto paved bricks, where it is very hard to slow yourself while wearing boots.
As an example, the Renmark Oval has a bike track around it and if you ran off the grass and on to that it could be quite treacherous. While, I've never seen too many people have problems running towards a coach's box, where generally there are enough people to stop your progress if necessary.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

Shoulders are definitely the fashionable injury at the Valley this season.

Had 4 shoulders (and 2 concussions) just against Glenunga back in round 3 or 4- and 2 of them havent played since.

We had a guy break his ankle at North Haven by sliding into the clubrooms, could well have gone straight through the window. Thanks to the Haven officials who were very accommodating. They were just as annoyed as we were as theyve been lobbying to the council for years to have a fence or barracade put up to no avail.

A Scotch player also had his jaw broken and I've heard about a couple of other serious injuries too..

I didn't hear about the guy in the B Grade, that is very unfortunate. I saw the guy with the shoulder in the A's, that didn't look good.

We were talking about this subject during the week it seems like there have been a lot of injuries this season, we have had two very serious injuries along quite a few not as serious. We had two minor knee injuries a torn driver and a dislocated elbow in the A's yesterday.

Sorry DJ, misinterpreted your comment.

We have been hassling the council for 10 years for a fence, even offering to pay for it ourselves but are always knocked back.

Whilst it is very unfortunate for the lad involved hopefully it forces the council to take action.

Is there some legal risk for the club with how dangerous it is. Isnt it up to both club and council to provide a safe playing arena which also includes surrounding areas.

What would happen if someone slipped head first and died, very very very unlikely but you never know.

Each club has to sign off on the safe playing conditions, if a club is unhappy they don't sign it.

But would that still cover a club if a serious accident was to occur eg, spinal, death etc.

You cant really blame the club if they've been trying to fix it for 10 years, but the councils not letting them.

Not blaming the club just saying there is a great to the club and council legally if something was to happen. I work at place which has great risks and we take every precaution possible and complete all correct safety checks etc etc BUT if something was still to happen we would still be liable that is why our insurances are so high.

If the club knows how big a risk of injury is there and the council want do anything should they not be trying to go higher up. Player safety is a clubs number 1 priority.

Im sure the player who has injured himseld would have legal standing if he decided to go to court and both club and council would have a case to answer you would think regardless of forms being signed off.

While the club is trying to do stuff through the council they still have a duty of care which includes things they can control like bringing in the boundary line, padding, etc
Unfortunatly its the world we live in contracts etc etc mean sweet fa.

If there's written documentation highlighting a concern to the council and they have not acted upon it they become liable. I've been down the same road trying to get a mammoth speed hump between a canteen and a playground and a blind corner.

true but there is still a duty of care for the place in question to control the controllables to the best of their ability. Where i work we are owned by the Playford Council and have these type issues on a daily basis, you will find if anyone got a decent lawyer they would be able to comfortably hold the football club partially responsible.

Even at lowest case the football club would have to cover there own legal costs which wouldnt be a small fee.

eg, if we have a loose paver in our front entry, we send an email to the council regarding fixing it its there responsibility all good, we then cant just leave that paver lose sitting there it is our responsibility to make sure NO ONE can walk over the paver and have an accident.

Just like a car crash you are 'partially' responsible for just being there even if its not your fault.

in the c3 game between kenilworth and mawson lakes, a mawson lakes player went down with a knee injury, i think it might have poped out on landing. the game got delayed for a long time while we had to wait for an ambulance to arrive.

Port Adelaide Enfield Councils Building, Port Adelaide Enfield Councils Oval.

The club that leases it is not allowed to make any alterations to the premises, end of story.

you cant make alterations to where you mark the boundary, you cant put temporary padding like you do to the goal posts.
