Rnd 9 West vs South @ Richmond Post Game

Postby Brodlach » Sat May 19, 2012 6:06 pm

West 15.9 99
South 7.9 51

Better players for West (as I only really watched out for them) - Fergusson, Hartlett, Caire, Lobbe, Fielke and Schmidt

West had contol for almost the entire game and came away with the win. Srong wind favouring the northern end and West comtrolled alot of the play. Their field kicking was excellent until the came to the half forward line then it was hit or miss.

Some terrible umpiring (didnt think they favoured either team) and they struggled to bounce the ball but didnt recall any.

To the panthers supporters, why is there two cheer squads?

West Adelaide treated the Foxtel Cup as a training run for its reserves.

South Adelaide appears to be having a decent crack at winning the Foxtel Cup.

West Adelaide almost doubled South Adelaide's score.

Coincidence?

What does 9/10 have to do with this year's Foxtel Cup?

Pretty ordinary set of results for South all day but about as good as you get for Westies.

League
West 2.2 8.5 9.6 15.9 (99)
South 2.4 4.4 6.7 7.9 (51)

Reserves
West 5.5 8.13 17.16 22.20 (152)
South 0.3 4.4 6.5 7.5 (47)

Under 18
West 7.5 15.12 18.18 23.22 (160)
South 0.2 1.3 4.4 6.6 (44)

Across all three grades, Westies kicked 40 more goals (60.51 to 20.22), had 285 more disposals (1061 to 776) and had 60 more inside 50 entries (178 - 118).

A special mention to Westies U/18 players Ryan Dijksman (46 disposals), Nicholas Favretto (44) and Simon Wong (36) who between them accumulated 126 disposals (106 were in the first three quarters), 41 marks, 9 goals, 17 clearances and 19 inside 50s as the Bloods chalked up 199 more disposals than South in their percentage-boosting win.

That is a great performance by the Bloods across all 3 grades and even more concerning for the depth down at the Panthers...

As I posted in the ladders thread...

West Adelaide's 3 grades defeated South Adelaide by a total of 269 points

League side won by 8.0
Reserves got up by 15.15
U18's won by a massive 17.16

So a total of 40.31 more scoring combined !!!

You can't blame the Foxtel Cup... as someone said in another thread, other clubs haven't faltered despite competing in both cups, plus are we really saying the players are that crap and unfit and stupid that they can't get deal with it?

Rather than blame the Foxtel Cup, I think its much more obvious that this is just another example of South's up and down performances, they were like that last year without the cup.

Obviously a very poor performance from South. Didn't make the most of the breeze in the 1st term (or the 3rd), while Westies played a disciplined style and ran forward in numbers all day. Their key defenders were very good. No fwd line pressure from South all day, Westies rebounded with ease.

Concerning results in all 3 grades yesterday.

How does South rectify this problem?

More spin from within

or

Action from the players.

Agree with Bunton, what spin? Ronnie tells it as it is, as he should, no spin there. Haven't heard any spin from board or management since Ron was appointed, again, nor should there be.
Southies we lost and lost badly but no need to turn on the club, they're not hiding behind excuses. Injuries are taking a toll, no spin there, fact! Our zones has the least number of clubs and schools within its boundries than any other SANFL club (eg both Norwood and Glenelg have over 100, South has 60!) thereby number of available potential recruits to SANFL level is greatly limited, no spin there, fact! Indeed the club is doing all within its power to have the SANFL review the zone boundries. We all get peeved after a poor performance, and it was a shocker, plenty of more games to play in a tight season, hopefully injuries are rested this week, more players avialable in coming weeks.

With the zone review being done every 5 years ( or can be according to the SANFL website ) in line with the census, Souths zone including the Seaford area might not have the same amount of schools but you would have to think it would have just as many kids, if not more?
