Adelaide Footy League Talk

Yeah I'm not sure College footy has as much clout or is as prestegious as it was back in the 80's and 90's.

Nothing better than a Saints v PAC game, I always went for Saints - and because I went to St Ignatius, which was a crap footy school at the time, it was a good opportunity to see some decent footy

Back in the day, the big news was the fact that Rostrevor had allegedly offered Ben Hart a BMW to attend and play for Rostrevor, instead of Blackfriars.

I just went waaaaaaaay off topic, didn't I?
Don't play games with a girl who can play 'em better...

Girls always support other girls

Sport and other extra curricular activities are a major part of the private schools total learning and maturing process.
It is as prestigious now as it was back in the 80's and 90's (so is spelling)
PAC would have between 5 - 10 kids also playing for SANFL clubs when not playing for the school.
The commitment to the school programme is one condition for the student. Dont like it - dont go to that school. A lot of parents send their kids to certain schools to get the coaching and to get noticed. The big schools have ex AFL players as their senior coach. I remember going to Rostrevor one day and they handed out what I thought was a match programme, but it was actually a précis on every player for the AFL scouts that were there.
I remember Greg Anderson left St Micks because they wouldn't let him play for Port Adelaide
But its not just football - look at rowing - multi million dollar sport now - the big schools would have assets in the $1m - $2m range for rowing.

I guess one issue, particularly in the north and north east, is that NEMJFA's Under 16's are allowed to play kids turning 17, as long as they turn 17 after June 30th. That means that many potential Under 18's are cruising round in the Under 16's. With 13 Under 16 teams it's possible that there are about 100 boys in Under 16's who could be playing Under 18's instead.

Congratulations to the Plympton under 18's side who have battled hard for two long years without a win, finally broke the drought today against Portland. Hopefully many more wins in the near future.

See the score in the Modbury/PNU game yesterday was 3.0 to Modbury and 0.0 0 to PNU, seems an awfully low score

Anyone know if trhis is correct

Troy McKinnons PAC 1st 18 pantsed St Peters last saturday to the tune of 180 odd points and that was without North Adelaide league rep Nick Amato. Talk is that as many as 6 of these boys are a chance to go the big league. They would compete if not beat with any under 18 SANFL side and are thriough to the final round of whatever the cup for 1st 18s is called with a few of the traditional big names missing out. I expect quite a few to filter through to PAOC and expect them to be very strong in the next few years
