Credit must go to our MFC President for his determination to source good committed coaches this season for our C and D Grades. The C Grade coach played for the D grade Saturday because of the low numbers available and then the D Grade coach assists the C grade coach. After the debacle of last season this is sensational for the club as a whole.

It obviosly depends on what the ump saw aye. Luke McDonnell gave a TTG player a slap to the face and got 3 matches. If I was Henley I would push the barrow. A genuine strike on that basis should be 10.Regardless of intimidation, undiscipline is undiscipline and out they should go.[/quote]

'A Slap in the Face'?? Dont know what game you were watching or what you constitute as a slap.... Last time I looked a clenched fist was still called a punch?? And from what I have heard, with his history.... he was lucky to only get 3!!!!

A class player. With P Uncle changing with him forward they are a very experienced duo. Josh Mann gives them a real target up forward and with Mount, Uncle and Mann playing on the same day, they havn't dropped a game in two years. Bring on injuries.

Got 2-3 very experienced players to come into that side halfway through the year..... lots of SAAFL A grade and even a touch of SANFL in those 3 as well..... May need plenty of injuries to stop them on the back 9....

Have to ask the reporting umpire. He was right there, he was watching the game and it was he who made the "slap" report and did the documentation. Thats footy, Luke is big enough and ugly enough to know he will be targeted and needs to be better than that. It was very stupid and he knows it. 3 games is probably fair and he needs to take his medicine, regroup and come back with a bit more focus.

Having said that I think if the umpire was quick enough off the mark to see the first one the retaliation perhaps wouldn't have happened at all.

Just quietly between you, me and the internet the bloke that got "slapped" might have just about had it coming ;)

Yeah that was perhaps Luke's lowest moment. He has had that, another striking report and now this slap charge.

All stupid. All deserving of a penalty, but, reputation not withstanding only the kicking one was really worthy of any lengthy discussion.

Mitchell Park showed on Saturday they are a hard running team, who run for eachother. It was dissapointing to see that even though they were at least 10 goals up in the 2nd quarter an onfield Mitchell Park player got in the face of the young boundary umpire (which their bench also got involved in) after a decision he made. Realistically that decision had no bearing on the game at all and the decision was to throw the ball in not a free kick to Modbury! The umpire was a 14 year old kid who umpires very well for his age and even gave 2 centre square infridgement frees to Mitchell Park later in the game.

Unfortunately this umpire is now considering not umpiring the lower division which is a shame as he is a good umpire and as we all know good help is hard to find.

Whilst I agree that was poor form from Parko, I think he went to remonstrate without realising his age, then saw it was a kid and backed off pretty quickly.

But really, there wasn't much in it. If your boundary umpire wants to keep umpiring then I would suggest he umpires kids his own age, waits until he is old enough or grows a pretty thick skin.

We are talking about senior mens football, he needs to expect some remonstration if he makes a bad call or hes in the wrong caper.

In all honesty, that's probably the thing that is the most wrong in the lower grades. We are, after all, playing Div7 football in the South Australian Amateur League. To say that when an umpire makes a bad call that he should be expecting remonstration is a ridiculous attitude to have. The umpires in this grade aren't ever going to make correct decisions 100% of the time, and the quicker people can get passed this the better.

It's hard to say, I know in the first few weeks we copped a few from the A's and B's going up which meant a few Saturday morning ring around. Probably the only advantage we have is that because it happens every year the coaches are getting better at convincing guys to throw on the boots!

WOW. Check out for a few days and away goes the chat on MP again. For the record Luke Mac was reported and suspended for 3 games for (on the official umps report) "slapping a player to the side of the face". Facts are he was undisciplined and regardless of the penalty got his right whack. If he was not sent off he would have been dragged and left to ponder on the bench anyway. Yes Zed he is close to big time trouble, but he has been fantastic for me in 2 seasons and a better leader you could not ask for. Guess we have all been dumb before, but he has just lifted the tally.
The Modbury Boundary ump held it all together very well. Can you ump at 14? Great to see and he was difinitive in all his decisions. The Hawks are very reliant on what happens above, as are most C grade teams, but their best is right up there. As for all the bulldust, our next challenge is Nth Pines end of story. They towelled us up by 12 goals out there last year and this will be a cracker. NP have played 40 guys in their A's in 5 rounds, Look out the team that cops them at their best. Hope it's not this week Bigshow82.

Chatting to BigShow today....full strength this week, and expect to win by 10-15 goals. Mitchell Park to have their first loss. Or was it the medical room has enough in it to field a handy A grade side? Mmmm, my memory fails me :-?

Read my previous post. I agree 100%. The kid was fantastic under pressure, and the MP player was taken from the ground and read the riot act. At the end of the day they are both kids and require education. But seriously, this is a mans game and it requires a very special "kid" to do what he has to do. Umpires are only hard to find because we are all looking in the wrong direction. Maybe it is time for us as clubs to recruit them and the League to have training programmes. As clubs we all rely on volunteers to do our jobs but we have a bigger responsibility to the game than to throw them to the wolves.

Similiar to the game we love, kids are put into the mans game to see how they respond. Whether umpire or player, they deserve respect. Every player will stand up for a 17 year old team mate.

In my experience in div 7, the younger umpires, who are serious and not just doing it for a coke and a pie, are better than the 70+ year old umpires or the biased club umpires.
