I don't know what's wrong with this club... a couple of years ago they were playing off in a Grand Final, now they're looking at back to back spoons and returning to being the league joke they were in the mid-1990s. On paper the team looks competitive, but its amazing how far we've fallen away in such a short period.

Last year we only just came last, unfortunately I can see us being several wins behind the second bottom team. There is no forward option, no one to kick goals and the defence can't stop people scoring. I know these have been close losses, but realistically Sturt should have been blown away well beforehand, the opposition has kept us alive.

Very disappointing Sturt.

Couldn't make it due to Mother's Day duties, but a great call from the R-PH team.

Fantastic win by the boys. Mothers day lunch prevented attendance today.

As for what is wrong with sturt, maybe one could start with the current sturt President/CEO who was quoted as saying that "the wooden spoon last year was undeserved, we played football at times that was a lot better than 9th place" Facts would show otherwise. The spoon was returned to the most frequently visited club of recent history.

17 is the biggest free kick differential for the year (next closest was 9) and the biggest since round 3, 2011 (South 15-35 Centrals).

Sturt's discipline should come under some sort of scrutiny - they've given away 26 free kicks more than they've received this season (next closest is North with 18) and have only been on the good side of the free kick count once since Round 15, 2011 (12 matches, 208 for, 252 against).

Not a bad call - since Round 1, 2011 in H&A games they've been on the good side of the count 21 times to 6. Again it goes back to discipline.

Well done to WWT, should've put the game away on many occasions but failed to do so. Again Sturt are failing to remain competitive at certain periods of the game and having to fight back.
Scott, you're comment about Sturts disclipline may be a fair one but fails dismally when obvious frees aren't paid the other way. 2nd 1/4 Hurley pushed in the back F50. No free. WWT player given a free for a high tackle received from a team mate. Other high tackles and in the backs not paid in Sturts F50. Many holding the ball not paid when the ball is just dropped in the tackle.
So it's not just the soft ones that WWT get, it's the obvious ones that Sturt don't get that really hurt. I'd like to know how many WWT frees were in or around their F 50, I'd guess about 6-8. Effectively Sturt were playing against two teams today and almost came away with a win. I reckon we had a pretty fair deal with the umps when we thumped them at AO last year, other than that I don't think there's many times we've had the better of the decisions.
SANFL umpiring is way below a reasonable standard, it needs to be dealt with soon. It's not good enough.

Yep, hard to understand how a team that has only won two games has such a differential in the positive. You'd think that if you were losing games you'd be second to the ball thus giving away more frees.
Doesn't add up!
Hate it when the umpires get it wrong :)

I think it's fair to say that Sturt over-achieved in 2009. But, yeah, the demise since then is very disappointing...

Good to get the win. Eagles should have sewn the game up much earlier, but to Sturt's credit they fought back and looked likely to win it heading in to time on of the last quarter. The Eagles found something in those last 6 or 7 minutes to get the much needed win and keep the season alive.

Thompson and Toumpas were outstanding. Was a solid effort for about 2 and a half quarters. Some goal kicking practise needed over the two week break - that almost cost them the game.

A chance to refresh and refocus now after clawing our way back into the season. The month after the two week break we come up against 4 sides who will be fighting for the same couple of spots in the five that we'll be after, albeit 3 of those 4 away. Will need to win at least 3 to stay in the hunt. I'm confident the Eagles can come good after the break.

A win today to Sturt (which was looking likely towards the end) and they would have been percentage from 5th with a game in hand. Don't think they are that bad. All 9 sides still a chance for the finals, although it is looking like a two horse race for the premiership.

Agree, the issue is very relevant to Sturt today.

Speaking of umpiring...

What about Joyce's point at the end of the game? Goal umpire called goal, field umpire was happy to call a goal but the 13 year old boundary umpire over ruled and was adamant the ball was touched. How do they come to that decision???

Last year I backed ST and they lost 10-14 to 10-8
From memory that was the game Mcleay outmarked Staple very late in the match ?????
The umpire saw it different, paid a free to Staple for a nudge in the back???
Staple kicked a goal
I had thought it was a mark, but perhaps I was talking from my pocket

This year I backed the EG and ST lost again 11-15 to 11-6
I won this time , and will not complain about the umpiring
Once again Staple kicked a late goal
I feel that the EG got much the better of the 50/50 decisions most of the day

Jimmy Toumpas is in my opinion the best disposer of a football at the EG club

5 minutes into the 3rd qtr
EG 10-13
ST 6-3
ST made about 6 shocking disposals, looked gone
My thoughts :
EG with a stiff breeze were looking likely to be 60+ points up at 3/4 time , and trounce ST
I read this game wrong at that stage
