The chants been around since the early 60s, I could hear the Grog Squad/Cheer Squad chanting it and people yelling it out from since Ive been going to games in the 70s, and yes, if you go back historically emblems like the Rooster was only adopted in the 2nd half of the 1900s although they were referred to as the Cock of the North and similar earlier on but were referred to as the Reds from quite on in their history.
