Is great to see EP boy, Raikiwasa, get in the best for Ports in his first game on saturday. i'd like to know what everyone thought of his game??? I saw 10 mins. on the ABC coverage and he won a contested ball in a one on one with his opponent and then his delivery down the wing was spot on. I am a former team mate of 'magic' (his brother) on the EP and I noticed that they have the same running style. Magic was an absolue star in Lincoln and is carving it up on the EEFL at the moment.

Long way to go.
With how even the comp is a few wins on the trot could push them up several spots.
Reckon there might only be a couple of games between finals and spoon this year, plenty of time for Port to turn things around.

Watch Callem Wilson in the trial against West at Alberton and he looked a world beater, then in the reserves on Saturday looked terrible. Doubt on that performace he would be selected in amateur league.

I thought his attack on the ball & ability to win the ball was very good for a 1st gamer, his disposal let him down big time.
He also showed he will not be intimidated & stands his ground.

Thats pretty accurate, he has a real crack. His disposal is probably the reason he wasnt drafted last season. He was nervous early, but got better as the game went on.
He played on Fisher for majority of the game and kept him goaless, so he was the one shining light for the game

Didnt give him an inch, unfortunately had to watch too many goals go over his head from further up the ground...

R7 West Adelaide v Port Adelaide POST MATCH DISCUSSION

Postby RustyCage » Mon May 07, 2012 5:41 pm

He is good because he has a good body size, isn't pushed around.

Port have a lot of issues at the minute, mostly mental, but we aren't helped by having a plodder midfield. Gray is the only one with pace in there and it's no wonder he is our best midfielder. The rest are (usually) honest triers but lack the pace/skills to match more athletic teams. Been a constant issue for the last 10 years with the magpies. As reasonable as they are ad footballers McKenzie and Brain are not the type of players we should have recruited.

Its interesting you have mentioned 19 year old Brain after his second league game. I think he will turn into being a very good league footballer. He hits in, he tackles and he works very very hard. He isnt explosive, but he isnt slow.

I think its clear that fitness is a major issue. That would be the reason for the intense training sessions during the week - trying to get their fitness levels up to standard. But unfortunately, the damage is done in that regard. The midfield just doesnt win enough of the ball and doesnt work hard enough to make space. As mentioned, its all very one paced, same same type of players. We lack forward targets with Wilson, at the moment, proving to be one of the worst recruits we've ever had. We've desperately needed talls for years so when we pick one with AFL experience and who dominated the WAFL, you expect them to average more than 3 kicks a game.

I said it last week, but I think Bamford is on borrowed time. I like him and think he did some great things in lesser roles, but Port Adelaide has been poor for years now and enough is enough.

On Wilson, did he find some form in the ressies on the weekend?

Nope, I watched the whole game and he was barely sighted. He had 8 kicks and 8 handbells, no goals

Didn't see his game but looking at his stats, seems he may have spent some time on the ball?

3. Wilson, C: 16 disposals, 1 mark, 7 tackles, 5 clearances, 2 inside 50's, no score

I actually made a point of watching out for him and IMO had no impact on the game. Maybe I was expecting too much as I was at the trial game against us where he tore us apart. I expected him to do the same in the reserves.

To his defence he wasnt getting much of it inside F50, and the delivery to him didnt help. He was pushed into the midfield in the second half and actually went ok, had 5 second half clearances, and started to get his hand on the ball.
I know peoples patience are wearing thin, but he is obviously a quality player when up and running, he just needs to get up and running.
