DEBATE & POLL: Has Facebook been a good thing for the world?

I for 1 have seen people sacked, divorsed and lost friends over bu!!sh!t on facebook. Then there is of course people going for jobs checking up on you, Police checking up on you really anyone can. I want to break in to your house lets check where you are on facebook your giving away free info. I dont have it and highly doubt i ever will.

Lots of employers dont even look at resumes based on facebook checks from what i have heard!

Im on it every day, and used to be one of the dickbags that put way too much info and uninteresting crap up.

But then I saw the light, and now ill only put stuff up thats either piss funny (to me) or the quota of romantic sentiments to keep the missus happy.

Also, I dont accept friend requests if I know Im never going to actually speak to that person. Just because I know you doesnt mean I like you.

Couple of my latest humorous statuses,

"North Melbourne Premiers 2012" (at the final siren of the the Geelong game)

"I am...Judge...Jamie Durie...and Executioner" (after mowing my missus's mums multiple hectre lawn on the ride on)

"Theres NO excuse for a beard with no mo...NONE!!!" (after seeing someone with a beard with no mo, obviously)

I approve of those status updates.

Hate it when i go catch up with mates a beer or knock off work early to go to the pub and when i get home my wife cracks the shits because one of my mates has tagged me at the hotel. I try to avoid catching up with people who do this now

Seen dickh@#ds do it on footy trip last year i was very close to knocking him clean out.

A former (female) school friend was at the same gig I was at last Friday night with a few mates. The missus went shopping. I caught up with her and she told me she tagged me at the show.
Just what I need is some bird declaring we were hanging out at some gig and the missus seeing it and starting a fight over nothing.




So I f#cked her as punishment.

Yes, I have done this and I know AFL recruiters use it to check on potential draftees as well.

If you are too stupid to lock your security settings, then you don't deserve the job. Who wants to work for a company that takes facebook seriously anyway.

Yeah, just lock out everyone who isnt a friend and employers cant see shit. Im pretty sure the Police still can check what you have on there though. But unless you're an effin idiot, which granted, most criminals are, you wouldnt put anything about crimes you commit on there.

I know of people putting prices for weed as their status, then someone buying, getting a screenshot of their Private Message about weed, and posting it as a pic...so dumb its F#!kin hilarious!!!

but i can understand people using it to remain in contact with family friends that are interstate-overseas, but not people you know who live around the corner

Its now 2 years since that problem and in the end I accepted the request. F**K me I never had that many issues when I was a teenager

Generally it has been ok and as I suspected I'm only a number and a substitute mother when she can't get hold of her using either FB as I have access on my mobile or my work phone as she was smart enough to work out my direct number oh also scored an invite to a birthday party of hers via Facebook. I wasn't going to go originally but her mum gave me so much shit about not going I had to attend which worked out ok as there were people even older than me there and they had a massive TV to watch the footy on

I did keep a close eye on her for inappropriate posts and did ask on several occasions if she was ok. She is quite small (younger sister is taller than her) and has massive cans for her height so plenty of people used post comments about being short etc.
Only once or twice had to mention it to her mother. Now not so much as in the last month her mother signed up.


I very rarely post updates only if something really ticks me off. Geelong stuffing up my footy tips has got more recent mileage.

Don't have many friends that post shit for the sake of it a couple have come very close to overstepping the mark though.

I have the highest privacy settings available including authorisation of check ins, tags, and posting on my wall.

Funny Onsong, I was thinking about Facebook on my way to work this morning and whether or not anything will ever seriously challenge Facebook for popularity/users and if it will ever die?

I'm finding it is causing me to dislike people I previously liked due to continuous status updates.

Another thing that annoys me is people posting pictures of the food they've just cooked or about to eat.

Yes and yes. Especially your first point, people post status updates, people who I know have a brain in their head and I just think W....T....F.
