Re: Black Caviar
I bet all the people who witness Makybe Diva win her 3rd melbourne cup, or the oldies who saw phar lap or tulloch run around - would say the exact same thing - just another horse race...
If it was Usain Bolt would people be negative?

Well I wouldn't be going to see Usain Bolt race in Adelaide either...scoob wrote:I bet all the people who witness Makybe Diva win her 3rd melbourne cup, or the oldies who saw phar lap or tulloch run around - would say the exact same thing - just another horse race...

In fact, Black Caviar interests me slightly more, but not enough to get me to the course..

I'm not sure if there's that many people who are negative. I personally am not a big fan of horse racing, but there a lot of people who do enjoy it, which is everyone's perogative.
One difference I personally see between horse racing and Usain Bolt is - and I'm not a massive fan of athletics although I do watch a bit during the Olympics - is that athletics - and 100m sprinting specifically - create interest in themselves for the sport they are, not for the gambling/betting associated with it.
I personally don't have any big moral objections to gambling on horse racing, it just doesn't really interest me, although if I do go to Oakbank or somewhere for the social side of things, I might put a small bet on, just for the hell of it, but thats more to get into the spirit of things than anything else.
I have a small interest in the Melbourne Cup, but thats about it for the sport in general. Probably in a similar way to following the America's Cup as a kid, but I found sailing incredibly boring as a sport too.
But each to their own, I don't begrudge anyone enjoying horse racing, or any sport for that matter.

Re: Black Caviar
Yep. I'd imagine so. Morphetville drains very well and we haven't had that much rain to be honest.
She has run on dead tracks a few times so I would expect her to run on a dead 6 or 7 this week.

Re: Black Caviar
The track is rated at a dead 5 at the moment... just means that they will not be irrigating at all.

Re: Black Caviar
with the field, i would expect her to win running backwards
is the main reason she is running here is coz the track is similar to the one shes heading to over seas or something or they run teh same way or something.
i was told this by someone

No, I think Moody is a bloody good bloke who wants her to run in all Australian cities, because, to be fair, once gone overseas we may never see her again.
It might also be the carton of VB and B&H the SAJC sent to him.

Re: Black Caviar
Just a quick question, would they normally go to great lengths to make sure a track is in a certain condition so 1 horse does race on the day.

Re: Black Caviar
Unlikely as race courses are what they are, ie - if it has been raining they are heavy. Difficult to change the rating of a racetrack too much. Morphetville drains very well and there is not much more you can do than that as far as winter goes.
In the peak of summer the irrigation offered would be enough to keep the hardness out of the track though, so, I guess in the middle of summer they may be able to make the track slightly "heavy" by over watering.Unlikely to do this.
Answering your question though, no.

Re: Black Caviar
Seeing BC is heading to the UK after this I dont think they would have an issue with running on a wet track.

Re: Black Caviar
Taking the day off work to go,really looking forward and even though i got a free ticket, well done to SAJC keeping admission prices the same as they will make alot of money elsewhere.Jackpot Jim stated on previous page that waste of time going for mug punters to attend and only the regulars will be a little excited.Going to watch Black Caviar break the record is exciting and this horse is bringing the crowds whenever she races, not everyone will be punting just happy to be there for the moment.
ps.i would have bought a ticket if i didnt get a freebie.

Every year the internationals get flemington watered before the melb cup - unless it has rained... our good tracks are a lot harder than the euro good tracks
