Even South/Glenelg draw more than Port/Norwood these days!

LMAO.

So the Bays have now 'earned the right' to be Queens every year? :D

Well done Tiges! And this year you've got.....hangon, it's The Eagles! Looks like the line is at a crowd of plus or minus 4,000 ;) (It's a day game though).

Will you be playing "God Save the Queen" through the PA, or having a live performance?

WTF?

Cmon, Im pretty sure you're not that stupid, but feel free to tell me otherwise!

We all hate the inequality of the $ driven AFL, so (imho) the SANFL Anzac Day game should always be about those that were good enough to qualify.

Agree completely, just dont think the Norwood/Port rivalry that every one bangs on about is No. 1 anymore in the SANFL.

The SANFL needs all the rivalries it can get.

But here is the problem for those advocating a Redlegs v Magpies monopoly on ANZAC Day.

The ANZAC Day game is an aftenoon match ... always has been, always should be.

I strongly believe that an AFTERNOON Norwood v Port game on ANZAC Day (say at Norwood)

would attract a similar if not SMALLER crowd than

Norwood v Port playing a normal Friday NIGHT match early in the season.

So where is the crowd benefit to the SANFL?

At least now another matchup can get a boosted crowd from playing on the day
(The fact it was a record crowd for an Eagles v Central game at Woodville clearly showed that occurred)
and everyone has the opportunity the play on ANZAC Day if they are good enough to get to the GF

Best solution crowd wise is
- Have Grand Final rematch in the afternoon as the traditional game
- Have Norwood v Port as a normal night match on ANZAC Day if they wish. (unless Norwood or Port in GF)

The Anzac day game is played between the Grand Finalists of the previous year
Nothing wrong with that
Teams earn the right to play on Anzac Day
Should never be an annual PA V NW thingamajib

I get pissed off seeing CO V ES in the AFL every year
Is this just a money grab ?
Why cant WB play ML every year ?
Anyways, the AFL should do what the SANFL do with the Grand Finalists
Its the fairest system
The criteria should never be which teams draw the biggest crowds

PS
SK to play an Anzac day game in NZ next season ?

Thought Matty Westoff deserves a fair bit of praise for his performance yesterday. In the 2nd quarter kicking with the breeze he took some strong grabs when we were struggling in the first to take a mark. Then kicked a couple of goals from difficult angles which really got us going and gave us the half time lead.

Bit differant Mal, No one wanted to play on ANZAC day in the AFL, Essendon and Collingwood had the balls to get it up and running just like South did with Good Friday so they should keep it.

North Melbourne got Friday night football up and going, now they hardly get one while Collingwood and Essendon seem to have a mortgage on it. It's got nothing to do with who started what in the AFL, it's just what gets the most viewers on TV and the biggest crowd. The AFL is selling it's soul to maximise the numbers. Let's hope the SANFL doesn't go down the same path and keeps things fair for all clubs while giving everyone something they can call their own niche.

Just how much we can take out of this game as a form guide ?
Did CD have a Luke I mean Harder game V PA than EG V NA last Saturday?
I saw the NA V EG game, either NA were too quick, or the EG didnt chase and harrass NA last Saturday often enough
Did EG sort of tank when they were out of the game ?
CD did lead PA by 50 points and won by less , did they ease up ?

Were CD rooted ?
LOOK at how EG outscored CD at the end of each qtr

1ST QTR
EG 2.1.......4-2
CD 2.2.......2.2

2ND QTR
EG 4-5...5-5
CD 8-4...8-4

3RD QTR
EG 7-5.....9-5
CD 12-4..12-4

LAST QTR
EG 9-5......12-6
CD 13-4....13-6

Were CD rooted at the end of each qtrs ?
OR was it a coincidence that EG outscored CD later in the qtrs ?

Did some of the younger players for both teams struggle with 2 games in 4 days ?
I will only use the CD players as examples[becoz CD did appear jaded at games end]
Vater, Menzel, Marschall, were they finding it hard fitness wise ?
Did some veterans feel the pinch ?
Sibenaler ,the Gowans boys, particularly James ?

Well said Dedja totally agree all the past heavy weights need to have a reality check unfortunately the 70's and 80's are over they were great times but now however due to many footy people deserting the REALl footy in this state and gone over to watch the pretty TV VICTORIAN footy that is the the problem end of story my friends so get used to the status quo for a very long time.

I know it must be a shock for some supporters to see a good number of people in the FFA given some clubs seem to want to put it in the most isolated location in the ground away from any facilities.

That said it was far from full.

For us we put it in the cricket club pocket because it is only 20 metres from our main gate,
that makes it the most accessible FFA in the league.

Plus a canteen is 10m away or BBQ 20m
and two sets of toilets within 30m, four sets within 60m

Why are these short distances important ?... well ask anyone who brings young kids with prams, blankets and everything to keep them entertained for an afternoon.

If you could hop down off the soap box, you'd realise a little feedback from someone who has been taking kids to SANFL games for 14 years coud be useful. But instead you chose to rehash your last submission to the board?

Yes, I'd like to know what Apache defines as the "biggest rivalry". Does big mean large, ie - big crowds? Or does big mean long standing / traditional?

Just on 4000 on Anzac Day to the *ahem* new heavy weight battle.....?

would be interesting to know what is the lowest crowd figure for an ANZAC day clash between the 2 grandfinalists. Suspect 4000 isnt a great crowd although if Adelaide Oval was available there would have been more

Perhaps BOTH clubs should do leaflet drops to attract more people ?

This match was never going to draw an enormous crowd. The Modern Eagles have never really had a big supporter base, and Central don't get many at minor round games (although they did outnumber the Eagles fns by three to one). I never expected more than 4,000.

Perhaps they should just introduce conscription for Sanfl games.

Port/Norwood is a respected rivalry that has evolved for well over 100 years. I rarely hear these supporters sooking and abusing the other club and its players. That is where I see a difference.

Bays and Central got about 2500 at Adelaide oval in 09 when it was pouring with rain, hailing and blowing a gale. And surprisingly Central smashed us
