PORT ADELAIDE
INJURED:
Mitch Banner (knee) 1 week
Jasper Pittard (hamstring) 4 weeks
Robbie Gray (knee) indefinite
Nick Salter (foot) 8-9 weeks
ON THE BLOCK: Hard to see 200cm forward Daniel Stewart keeping his spot for the Showdown on Sunday after a sluggish outing against the Pies. Stewart started with a bang kicking his side's first goal but could only manage another two behinds for the match. Forward John Butcher had a tough day returning from a hamstring injury with a goal.
ON THE CUSP: Young Power ruckman Jarrad Redden should make his return after being rested for the trip to Melbourne. Unlucky midfielder Steve Salopek was handy in the SANFL picking up 21 touches including six inside-50s playing for Glenelg.
GILBERT GARDINER'S FORECAST: There is no doubt Port will miss Robbie Gray who is facing a lengthy stint on the sidelines after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament. Gray landed awkwardly, hyper-extending his right knee in sickening fashion with only 30 seconds left in Port's loss to the Pies. Early indications are that he sliced his anterior cruciate ligament and will have a knee reconstruction. Port backs Alipate Carlile and Troy Chaplin have it all to do trying to contain rampaging Crow forwards Kurt Tippett and Taylor Walker -- if only they could kick straight. Looking forward to SuperCoach bargain buy Redden coming up against Crow ruckman Sam Jacobs.
ADELAIDE
INJURED:
Graham Johncock (thigh) available
Ian Callinan (calf) test
Chris Knights (quad) test
Jared Petrenko (concussion) TBC
Brad Crouch (hamstring) TBC
Richard Douglas (hamstring) 2-3 weeks
Bernie Vince (broken hand) 2-4 matches
ON THE BLOCK: The Crows were sluggish but managed to overcome the Giants, albeit with a few stragglers. Daniel McKay had just seven kicks, while young defender Daniel Talia didn't offer much drive. Vince will miss the Showdown – and could be out for a month – while Petrenko is no certainty after lasting less than a quarter on Saturday.
ON THE CUSP: Knights was named as an emergency on Saturday but is now under a cloud. Sam Kerridge remains in the mix after limited game time in his only match, while Brad Symes could come back to face his old club. Unfortunately, Richard Tambling is only just going, playing for SANFL club Sturt. Johncock is ready to return.
SAM LANDSBERGER’S FORECAST: Finally the injury bug has bitten the Crows, but with many short-term complaints it could have come at an opportune time with Port Adelaide this week. A win will set up a crunch match against Sydney with both clubs looming as the big improvers in 2012.
