Absolutely no reason why Norwood and Port can't play on ANZAC Day in addition to the previous year's grand finalists. In the past, there were often multiple games on ANZAC Day.

Agreed. I think a day game between the 2 previous year's Grand Finalists then Norwood and Port at night would be great. Worked fine back in 2010 and I was even able to duck off from Elizabeth after the Central v Sturt game and still get to The Parade in time for the night contest.

Just on the kids.

There was free face painting in the family friendly area from 1.30pm to 3/4 time as per every home game.

Location of Family Friendly Area (in front of cricket club) is also on signs at our two gates.

Free Face Painting & Location was advised
- on posters put up by all the gates, canteens
- over the PA system
- in other communications leading up to the game (including I think one posted on this site in the preview thread).

Plus the kick for goal competition at half time that always seems to be won by a kid.

All our junior Eagles members also would collect their free home match giveaway which for this match was our new 2012 Team Poster. (1st game was a lanyard, last one 3 Player Trading Cards, next HM is a wrist band)

All kids welcome to sign up as a free junior member (if 13 or under)

Focus was not really on the kids today, that comes with our AUSKICK Day in June and KIDS Day in August.

Nothing shuts up the kids like a jumping castle!

And once one family sat in the family area, it was full.

Didn't Norwood host Port the season before last in a night ANZAC Day game?

What kind of crowd turned up to that one?

Surely you must earn the right to play on ANZAC Day?

What have Norwood, or Port for that matter, done in recent years to have earned that right Spoin?

In 2010, 4,884 turned up at Elizabeth to see Central v Sturt. That night, 6,611 turned up at Norwood to see Norwood v Port.

As for earning the right to play on Anzac Day, the Anzac Day scheduling of a Grand Final re-match is a scheduling determination by the league.

Anzac Day is not about earning the right - no one earns the right to go to war. This match is determined by the Grand Finalists who currently earn a scheduling reward.
For a stand alone match to draw a paltry 4,000 on Anzac Day, must be a real concern for the league. More people turn out to regular fixtures. Port v Norwood as a stand alone game on a Sunday a few weeks back had 4,900. It wasn't like Anzac Day fell on a Friday or a Monday so people took off for a long weekend.....

Just a slight reality check for Norwood and Port fans ... It's 2012, not the 1970's or 1980's.

WHY!!!!

If this was played on Saturday there would be lucky to be 2K there so double the attendance is a great result for the SANFL!

Well so far today's crowd is the 2nd biggest for a DAY game this season.

Only Port v Norwood at Alberton was larger and only by approx 740.

Average DAY attendance in SANFL for Rd's 1-5 -- 2,722 per game (27,221 for 10 games)

Only 4 of those 10 day games have broken 3,000
- today
- Port v Norwood
- Sturt v Port
- Norwood v Eagles

Port and Norwood were involved in two of those each, too! (The Eagles two as well).

Splitting hairs though now mate - this was an ANZAC Day game - not just any old "day" game.

Don't get me started on the SANFL night league we have these days..... ;)

LMAO.

So the Bays have now 'earned the right' to be Queens every year? :D

Well done Tiges! And this year you've got.....hangon, it's The Eagles! Looks like the line is at a crowd of plus or minus 4,000 ;) (It's a day game though).

Will you be playing "God Save the Queen" through the PA, or having a live performance?

Cmon, Im pretty sure you're not that stupid, but feel free to tell me otherwise!

We all hate the inequality of the $ driven AFL, so (imho) the SANFL Anzac Day game should always be about those that were good enough to qualify.

I know it must be a shock for some supporters to see a good number of people in the FFA given some clubs seem to want to put it in the most isolated location in the ground away from any facilities.

That said it was far from full.

For us we put it in the cricket club pocket because it is only 20 metres from our main gate,
that makes it the most accessible FFA in the league.

Plus a canteen is 10m away or BBQ 20m
and two sets of toilets within 30m, four sets within 60m

Why are these short distances important ?... well ask anyone who brings young kids with prams, blankets and everything to keep them entertained for an afternoon.

I think the league would be pretty happy with yesterday's crowd.
About 700 more than the Sturt v Port game (one of two games that day), and only a bit over 700 less than Port v Norwood (as a stand alone game).
I didn't think Port and Norwood ever had "any old "day game".
Fortunately, the league makes some decisions based on a competition of performance not on a popularity contest.

Thanks, we've noticed a change, lack of finals etc.

How do you guys work out what "era" it is? You cant work on who the coach is, finals wins etc etc. :D
