Also congratulations to Ollie McDowall for being awarded the Under 21 player of the year. By far the best junior in the comp.

Terrible turn out to the Presentation night with numerous award recipients not in attendance

I would have attended but I was only notified the morning of the presentation night. Should have been put up on the ASCA My Cricket Web Site.

Interesting to see on the ASCA website the past winners of section 1, is that right that Coro have not won the flag since 54/55 ? long time between drinks out there, boys must be getting pretty thirsty :!!

We're working on it mate. Been far too long but we'll get there!! After all, ASCA is coromandel right? with the Hewett name attached to such an award. ;)

not trying to point the finger and be critical but it would be nice if the association could run a good evening where invites are sent out to all clubs and a countdown of all rounds etc was conducted eg. Brownlow medal style. Would make it exciting and a very good night could be made of it. Perhaps next year do it in grand final week so that everybody is in cricket mode, thus in my opinion would attract a lot more
people to attend.

I understand that such event are difficult to put together as after all its a association put together by volunteers, but players, officials, committee's and so forth put so much into cricket clubs and believe it or not things don't just happen so we must thank them. but I think everybody in our great comp deserves a good evening.

Just my two bobs worth. not having a go at anybody. I mean well :)

That's because a Tuesday night before a public holiday is a stupid night to have the bloody presentation. Another reason to show our committee is out of touch with reality.

im with you moe, putting any sort of medal count the night before a public holiday is a little silly... for example you could have it first week of final. or the committee could actually turn it into a bit of an event i.e a dinner, where there is a medal count and not only the medal winner is celebrated but the highest scorer/wicket taker can also be honored plus the premiers can be congratulated on a more formal stage... a diferent club could host it every year... and more importantly it would be a piss up  ... good way to end a season imo... just an idea..

I agree with the brownlow style night and right after cricket season, not 1 month after. Make it a night where dinner and drinks. P_ss poor turnout especially those who won awards and the association STILL want photos of people who are accepting the awards for someone, which then gets uploaded onto the website. Who wants to see "Joe Blow" in a photo accepting an award for "John Smith"
Hopefully at the next association meeting something could be put forward.

Congrats to all trophy winners especially Dan Rowe!

Ok then, here are the reasons I think Tuesday night was a bad call.
1. Night before a public holiday where people might be taking time to get away.
2. Night before a very important day to most Australians who are getting up at 4.30am to get the family or just themselves ready for the dawn service.
3. A football training night for a lot of players.
4. It is 5 weeks since the bloody grand finals.

When would I have it? Well I am glad you asked!!
Wednesday night of Grand Final week. Is that pinpointed enough for ya?
Held at a neutral venue, (I work at a place that would do it), every club to have a table of 8 minimum(Max $20 per head). Sit down dinner, medal count on the big screen. Presentation of all awards. Hall of Famers announced, live music (maybe one direction ;) ).
Could even have a guest speaker, you know, maybe even a CRICKETER  !!
But I digress. This could be one of the pinicles of our season, and one where committee members can enjoy a night after a season of hard yakka, and where all award winners can be acknowledged by a room full of their peers.
How's that for you FIAJAA11 :?

Not a bad idea except the association love the fact the trophys and the runner up certificates are awarded at the presentation night as well. Trophy places would make it hard to have the said trophies back In 9 days time, although its not impossible.

I think it Is about time we have a more formal night, especially for the hewett medal! All Phil Davis did was read out Roweys stats, give him the medal and that was it. I can't even recall second and third being read out.

I take that back.

Until the umpires can seriously vote properly and have any idea about how to give out medal votes, then the Hewett Medal, both in the way its presented and voted on, will mean squat. Taking nothing away from the winner as he is the best cricketer in the comp and a deserving winner.

However, i could bring out numerous games where the votes are unable to be justified. For example, round 1. Western Youth v Glenelg ANA.

Western Youth 9/240 batting first in the one dayer v Glenelg ANA 154

3 Votes R. Hopkins (20 and 0/7 off 5)
2 votes S. Visser (1 no and 2/26 off 8)
1 Vote A. Zuvela (5 and 0/31 off 8)

Considering Hopkins was the 5th highest scorer for us to start off, that doesnt make a good case for him.

At one stage we were 5/67 and in all sorts, where Pressy (51) and Al Stenson (49) got together and put on 95 for the 6th wicket. Chris Allen also made 51 (off around 25 balls) batting at number 9 and got us to a great total of 240 off the 6 overs.

In the field Todd Goodrich took 4/43 off 8 for the bays and Basso took 2/21 off 3 overs (wickets off both Stenson and Press).

When it come to us bowling, Rowey made 51, Galliford 37 and no one else over 15. After putting on 44 and looking to take the game away from us, both batters looking ominous, young Ollie McDowall, came on removing Rowe, Galliford and 2 other wickets, to take 4/39 off 7 overs.

Visser and Hopkins didnt get a vote in our club awards for that game. Votes were given to Pressy, Ollie and Al (award that is voted on 11 players from the game). Chris Allen was unlucky considering he scored 51 and really took the game away from Glenelg ANA.

How any of the vote getters got a vote, let alone all three of them in there is beyond me.

Until i found out who umpired us. Bob Fradd. What a wank is that bloke.

For what its worth my votes for that game.

3. Pressy
2. Stenson
1. any one of McDowall, Allen, Rowe, Wright, Goodrich

Yes it should have been up on the website.

However, Craig Lawn emailed all clubs who the trophy winners were, except for the Hewett medal, on 18/4. That gave the clubs time to notify people to attend. Even though we all know with mycricket who wins the trophies.

As CK said it is also in the handbook at the start of each season.

All nice in theory Moe but in years gone by people don't turn up to an event where the food and drinks are free when the next day isn't a public holiday, not that i see that as being a negative. How do we think we are going to get more people to something more formal which they have to pay for.

All of these things would be good and i agree the Hewett medal presentation could be done differently and better but i suggest people put their hand up for the association committee and share their thoughts there.

Also well done to Dan Rowe on winning the medal again this year. I believe it is his 3rd in the last 4 years.

Greg Pritchard came 2nd with 12 votes and had a good year so well deserved

Robbie came 3rd with 11 votes and had some outstanding games but as CK has pointed out he probably shouldn't have got all the votes he did get.

Pressy and McDowall didn't get many votes either which was surprising to me.

I am surprised Steven Thomas didn't get more votes that he did either.

The awards a joke, just scrap it. The low count also shows just how close this comp has become in all areas.

It isn't about whether they like him or not it should be on performances only.
