The reason junior players have left your club is because for the last few years it has not been a family club that you'd want your children to be involved in. I've been into your home change rooms (finals last year) and the stuff written on the walls in their, a place where you're expecting 13-17 year olds to get changed is a disgrace.
Birdwood has always been a place that promotes a family culture and thus parents have been attracted to it. New players in are always pleasantly surprised how many kids we have running around the club rooms on a Saturday night.
You can just go around blaming us for 'stealing' your players but have a look at your own backyard first and enjoy div 3...

Very welcome discussion boys!! If the HFL are serious about keeping clubs alive, creating three divisions is the obvious plan for a positive outcome. But it's a bit disappointing Milang haven't been factored in by most posters here. A club which lives within its' means and who will have a few disappointed players running water this week.
Players win awards. Teams win games. Clubs win Premierships.

Surely milang would be factored in. So many people working do hard for that club they'd deserve a chance. How many kids are there in milang mate? And where do they go to play their football?

For example you could say that only teams with junior/senior colts can start in div two which places sedan within reach who now have senior colts. By this ruling Gums will be in div 3...? To go the other way and base it on performance would raise the argument of how long teams without colts can be successful for without any feeders which in turns means we are back at square one when these clubs eventually run out of money or have a mass exodus?

the hfl proposal will see the following teams in div 2:
• 2 x teams from current central division
• birdwood
• echunga
• meadows
• kanagarilla
• kersbrook (who will need to find a U13 team)
• nairne

all other clubs (gums, maccy, seadan, cally) will be in div 3. to be eligible to go to div 2, they'll need to be able to commit to five teams on match-day.

Kersbrook do have a U13 team. You can not just make div 2 clubs that can produce all 3 juniour sides otherwise clubs like Uraidla (dominate div 1) Kersbrook (who have missed finals footy twice over the past 25 years) and Torrens Valley(another div 1 club who dominated div 2 when in it) who struggle to put 3 junior sides on the park could find themselves playing in the 3rd div

sorry, the reference to no under 13 team should be next to kangarilla, not kersbrook.

i disagree with you second point. it should be a 100% enforceable pre-requisite that div 2 teams have all three junior sides. the clubs you mention (uraidla, tv and kersbrook) can all find plenty of money to pay players, and need to spend some of this cash on promoting their club and attacting and retaining junior.
the restructuring of the competition into 3 diivisions is about much more than just eliminating the cally 50 goal blowouts. its about ensuring that all div1 and div2 teams have 5 games on the one day, and not the scenario that is happening in country div in 2012.

I must say I agree with Gervais, this is not the AFL and therefor winning a premiership does not mean a cash influx. Sooner or later the tide will turn for the clubs without sufficient junior programs as money does not grow on trees.

The question here really is, does the HFL have the balls to make the tough decisions? Going to a three div comp means they have to put a few noses out of joint or risk only pushing calling ton out and solving nothing else.

There is so much contradiction that will go on here it's not funny, some will say that it's about the kids and not the old fellas only to turn around and say its not fair we're penalized for having no kids!

End of the day if the HFL makes a tough call, dumps gums, tv and whoever else and introduces a promotion/relegation then the divisions will sort themselves out within two years and the league will prosper. They'll also need to tighten up on junior zoning.

Simple enough concept but too many emotions, fear n fools pride will see this not push past this forum.

Either don't do anything or get it right the first time but don't just put a bandaid on it to please people because if you're still bleeding you'll still die

I think ( well i know) the HFl will act because theyve had a gutsful of trying to organise a junior draw in country div...id say its taken more of their time than any other issue and I dont think they want to go thru it again next season.

Sorry Gumeracha but obvoiusly the culture is not right there..perhaps all the $ they put into their senior football could have been better spent.

Sorry cally, youre a basket case anyway.

I know that some country div clubs have had enough of changing draws, venues etc..I think a couple of them would rather participate in central div even if there senior sides get a hiding each week.

Maybe they had plenty of time on their hands seeing how they did the country senior draw so quickly....

Round 2 - **** Cant wait for Div 3 **** Eagles Vs Kersbrook - Kersbrook by 61 goals 27 points to 1 point!
Sedan Cambrai Vs Echunga - Echunga to rest some players again, looks like we wont see Echungas best team on the Park until round 3 - Echunga by 25-30goals.
Kangarilla Vs Nairne Bremer - Nairne by around 6 to 10 goals away.
Macclesfield Vs Birdwood - Birdwood by 10 to 15 goal win.
Meadows Vs Gumeracha - were Meadows just having an off day against Kersbrook or not??? If they have slipped away I see Gums getting up in a 3 to 5 goal win.

I don't really follow your association that much, but I can see that something needs to be done. When their are two or three games a week with a winning margin off over 20 goals, there is something very wrong.

Cheers b39. Milang is a growing town with plenty of kids and part of our near-future plan is to field a junior side, probably under 13s at this stage. Some of our kids play at Langhorne Creek or Strathalbyn but want to play for us when juniors happen. We've had quite a few kids train with us over the years and as soon as they're big enough to ride the bumps, we play them in 'C's. They're well looked after by umpires and opposition players as a rule. We chose our Captain last night and he played his first "A" Grade game with us as a 14 year old when we were in Country Div in 2001. Last year we played 4 kids under 18 every week and one won Best and Fairest.

I see Gumeracha's lack of discipline hasn't changed. 3 send offs in the last quater on Saturday and they still won.

Tim Kleeman. Been at Milang F/C for many years and used to watch us play as a kid rather than seek a game somewhere else.
I believe he was the youngest player to play 'A's for us at 14. Now lives in Adelaide but trains and plays every week.
