Mallee Match Preview –21/4/2007
Peake v Murrayville
Peake would have been disappointed with last week’s effort against BDT. After leading by 11 points at quarter time, BDT took control to win by 104 points. Toby Downs was the main goal scoring option again & if some one does not step up to support him, it may be another long season for Peake. A good sign was their better players were youngsters Joe White, Daniel Marrett, Sam Goodall & Kell Bleasby.
Murrayville pushed Lameroo but couldn’t quite get over the line. Luke Kirkbright started the year well, along with Justin Bailey & Tim Eichler. Damien Fenoughty made a welcome return after a broken ankle in 2006. James Dixon returned to ruck well, but will not play every week. Clayton Sporn (if he is not playing in Adelaide) will be valuable in attack to support Drew Crane.
Murrayville should record their first win of the season.
Lameroo v Karoonda
Lameroo look to have a very settled line up. Shaun Walker, Rodney Maynard & Brad Zerk form a strong midfield, while Ben Venning adds much needed height around the ground. Chris Philbey is dangerous at half forward & Josh Ridgway is a good crumbing forward.
Karoonda scored a good win, coming from behind against Pinnaroo last week. Luke Hocking kicked 7 goals and also played well on the ball. Simon Martin & Todd Boughen were strong contributors in the midfield, with Eli Koch in control at centre half back. Jason Morris showed he will be a valuable asset in ruck with a strong performance against good opposition. Justin Maloney’s return will strengthen the midfield for Karoonda.
Lameroo will start favorites at home.
Pinnaroo v BDT
Pinnaroo lost a close match at Karoonda last week. Brad Schroeder won plenty of possessions on a wing, Mark Gum was solid at half back and Scott Kirkbright showed his best form for a long time on his wing. Chad Nickolls, Wade Nickolls & Matt Thiel provide a huge obstacle for opposition teams to counter. Alex Keogh & Alan Halls are quick running players & Sunyl Vogt will be a welcome return this week.
BDT thumped Peake last week with Josh Richardson again showing Mail Medal form. Youngsters Jack Zacker & Jarvis Webb put in good games & Matt Schilling kept up his Grand Final form. Clint Richardson (shoulder reconstruction) is a big loss and this week will be a guide to the fortunes of these two teams for 2007.
Pinnaroo at home may just get the points.
