Hall, Knights & Staple kicked 2 for the Hybrids.

A very even performance again from the Bays, the defence stood up well, and our on ballers went well. A couple of young blokes for Glenelg held their heads up high in Agnew & Bradley.

For the Eagles, no idea, as I couldn't give a rats about 'em....

Just going by the live scores thread, again the most disappointing thing is we never seemed to really threatended the game, except perhaps briefly after half time when we kicked a couple in a row.

Sam Shaw was BOG IMO, he has come so far in one season. It's criminal that he's not playing AFL. Happy for Adelaide not to pick him

The day started well as I walked in the gates and purchased a budget with a poster of Macca in the middle. As I pushed the pram around the outer side to a quiet patch of grass in the south-eastern corner of the oval I pictured where in my bedroom the poster would look best.

It was my 15 month old daughter’s first trip to the footy without Mum. It was just me and her and I knew it was going to be a tough day at the office.

Kicking into the breeze in the first quarter, I thought the Eagles were exceptional in their endeavour and if it wasn’t for Shaw and co in Glenelg’s defence the Eagles would have scored more. Still, 1.3 apiece at quarter time was a good effort which the Eagles could capitalize on in the 2nd quarter.

That’s when the shit hit the fan. In 5 minutes of footy my day turned from pleasant to a disaster. I don’t know whether it was the chocolate easter egg I fed her at the quarter time break or Luke Powell missing the rest of the game with injury. I don’t know who was squealing more, my overtired daughter or Aaron Day in the forward line, but with 3 goals to Glenelg before I even managed to look up to watch the footy there was a sense of déjà vu, 2012.

The effort the Eagles put in that quarter was embarrassing. Dropped marks, seemingly a lack of effort across the park – only Rowntree, Jarrad and Grieger could hold their head high. Glenelg got a further two goals ahead before the Eagles scored their 2nd goal for the game to be around 4 goals down at half time. With my daughter finally falling asleep just before half time, there was still hope.

Half time started with me totally botching up my pie with sauce. Thank god for the nappy wipes. If only the Eagles on-ballers were as quick on the ball as the ants were on my pie we were still a chance. It was going to take a big effort.

The breeze calmed for the 2nd half and the Eagles got some endeavour back to their game. Glenelg still managed to keep us at arm’s length though but with the intensity on show and some spark from Sumner across half forward, there was hope for a last quarter comeback.

Day’s horror day continued back in defence with two errors resulting in 2 goals to Glenelg and any chance the Eagles may have had was gone. The 21 minute mark was enough for our day and I am so disappointed that the budget is still sitting in the boot of the car where it can stay until we start winning again.

As I mentioned earlier, I thought Rowntree and Jarrad were terrific and Grieger’s effort in ruck and around the ground was superb and full of heart. There were glimpses from others but the 2nd quarter cost the Eagles the game. More quarters than not have been non-competitive this season and that is why we are bottom. The season is already on the line.

The eagles started the game well with high intensity but faded in the middle quarters before picking it up at the end.

We seemed to get the ball into our forward 50m line regularly enough. We just didnt' have one forward player who could mark the ball, compete and spoil when necessary.

The eagles coaching staff have a lot to answer for regarding their planning of how the forward line should operate and their lack of recruiting tall KPP who can take a mark. Staple was absolutely useless today dropping everything that came his way. Rae is not good enough for this level yet but what is he doing in the team??? Since Godden has been in charge we have really only operated with one decent tall forward (Grocke). This is why we can never kick winning scores. When our midfielders get the ball they hold it up chipping sidesays, backwards etc because there is nothig forward to kick to.

Early days yet and maybe we will recover but I think we are looking at a bottom two finish.

One bright note was the form of Grieger. I thought he was oustanding the way he competed in the ruck against a much taller opponent.

Disappointing to hear that about Staple, Mr Fuller. He was like that this time last year, but found some belief towards the end of the year, which made a big difference to the team overall.

North went 0-5 at the start of 1992 after winning the 1991 flag easily. They recovered to ve 6-6 and eventually finished in the top 3 at the end of the minor round before going out in straight sets.

Bays good, real good, and didnt think the eagles were too bad, just seem slightly off the boil and not terrible. I think Gods doesnt have them fully wound up yet and their big bodies are suited to the June/July slog rather than the running game that Glenelg exposed them with today.

Best part about the Bays win, apart from standing with the same mates during last years flogging, was it was bloody hard to pick our best on ground, very even team perfomance.

Good solid effort against a slightly depleted Eagles, who were obviously down in confidence.

The Bays controlled the game after 1/4 time but the Eags had a couple of surges without success.

The Bays attack in the ball and free flowing game style is starting to gel and is a pleasure to watch.

Bradley, Agnew and Trembath were standouts, with an even effort across the ground again contributing to a solid team effort.

Can't ask for much more than a 3-0 start to the year but a very long season ahead.

The Eagles better get their skates on or the double chance is going to slip away from them very quickly.

I thought Staple tried reasonably hard, but is out of form. Marks not sticking.

I think Rae could be ok. He has the necessary attack for the contest but the crucial thing for him is to have the will to keep his feet. Too often he'd fly and was out of the contest because he went to ground.

Heinjus was used as a 2nd Ruck at times. Could be useful. Even though Grieger was good today I think his importance to us in defence demands him to be played there when Parry comes back.

Culley I didn't really notice, but can't say I knew who he was or was watching him at all. He may well have performed a role in defence?

Day was the really disappointing one for me. Has no idea how to play forward and seems to be intent on getting the receive instead of being a focal point which is what we needed. Even in defence he was ordinary and I'd drop him for next week.
