Round 4 Eagles vs Glenelg @ Woodville Preview

Postby clanger » Sun Apr 08, 2012 9:31 pm

if Eagles want to have any real chance of defending their title, this is a must win no matter how their get it because no to many clubs who would start the season 0-3 would make the finals let alone the grand final.

 Eagles players and supporters would have breathed a sigh of relief when they saw Glenelg at Woodville as the fixture this week, ditto for Centrals with South. Eagles by 24-30. Glenelg have a terrible record vs WWT stretching back to the 90's, regardless of respective form or ladder position.

LOL, a bye for the Eagles?

If the coach and players have that attitude (which I very highly doubt) then that explains the result against Norwood.

The Bays to just get over the top of a resurgent Eagles ... by 15 points.

glenelg will be bolstered with 2 wins, albeit against poor opposition, but the fact they made North pay really does help.

Not sure what happened to the eagles, but one would expect them to hit back hard and the game should be a close one perhaps another draw.

This promises to be an interesting battle as the Eagles head into the clash without a win whilst the Tigers are undefeated. In head to head battles the Eagles hold a very decisive advantage 37-17 with 2 draws. At Unleash Solar (Woodville) it is very much the same trend with the Eagles holding a 16-4 record also with 2 draws. However the recent record at Woodville is much closer with the Eagles only holding a narrow advantage of 3-2 of which the last was a win to the Eagles of 107 points.

The Eagles will have to vastly improve to win this game but maybe the unveiling of the 2011 premiership flag is the tonic the Eagles need. Kane and Cicolella to return from suspension, Cica to play his 250th and Shirley his 100th game could also add further motivation for the eags to get the job done.

My tip: Eagles 9 pts

Normally at this time of season a team with a couple of wins comes up against another good team and people ask if they're the real deal. I see this game for the Eagles as a game that will answer the question of if the Eagles are really that bad? If they lose to Glenelg, you start forgetting about results from last season and look at the unfortunate reality of where they sit on the ladder now.

The season is a long one but if the Eagles don't win this weekend the pressure will really be on. 1-2 looks far more manageable than 0-3. On the other hand it is a great opportunity for Glenelg to keep their winning momentum going.

I don't care how bad they look or how ugly they play this week, the Eagles just need the 2 points.

Interesting to see Grieger named in ruck with Parry at Full Forward due to the absence of Grocke through suspension.

Parry probably needs to play more forward for us anyway, even when Grocke is back in the side. Especially now Salter is out injured long term. Hopefully a couple of Rae, Culley, Heinjus etc can take the opportunity they've been given.

The Eagles should scour the country for the best ruckman not currently on a state league contract and get them to the club asap to assist Parry. Can't see Redden back with us anytime soon.

Who is the Eagles ruckman in the reserves? Does he have any height? Surely he should be given the chance. We need Grieger at Full-back.

I think if the forward lines up as named we will struggle to kick more than 7 goals.

Hitchcock will come in for tenace as the only change for the bays. Shaw named as an out but my preiction is he will play. Proud and Kirk-a-saurus as emergencies from what i can gather

Well this is full of what if's and maybes! Heinjus has the height to ruck support Parry but with Culley in as a defender, it looks like the 4th quarter last week was a trial run for Grieger to change his career and give the Eagles some desperately needed grunt at the ruck position. This side again looks rock solid but has played like champagne dipped marshmellows! Speed it does'nt have so aggressiveness and commitment are the keys here; show that and they win and win well 25-35 points Eagles! If we fail then we might just have to scramble up a player or two asap to sharpen this teams cutting edge but this game should tell alot with regard to that subject.

IMHO the side will not line up like that.Although Grieger did ruck against the bays in the trial and went forward and kicked goals.
Personally think Bock will go back to the seconds and Heinjus and perhaps Rae will help out in the ruck !!!
