Email to Norwood members this afternoon:

Nathan Eagleton announces retirement

Norwood midfielder, Nathan Eagleton, has today announced his retirement from League football.

Eagleton, who played 23 SANFL League games for Norwood after transferring from the Western Bulldogs at the end of the 2010 season, has signalled his latest hip injury setback and mental fatigue, as his reasons for stepping away from the game.

Nathan made the following statement today:

“I sat down and had a good conversation with senior coach Nathan Bassett and Football Operations Manager Mark Ross, about where I am at, both physically and mentally, since hurting my hip in our last trial game against Sturt.

“I have always stated that once I feel I am no longer able to contribute to the best of my abilities that I will walk away from the game and begin a new chapter in my life.

“There are a number of high quality players at Norwood who are capable of playing my role, and I feel by continuing to play I could well be hindering the development of these individuals.

“I would like to thank everyone involved at Norwood for making me feel so welcome during my time here. I will be taking a few weeks break to spend some time with my family before returning to assist Nathan Bassett and his team of coaches in the mentoring, coaching and development of our playing list.”

Good career, good player and not a bad bloke, just not a good at supporting the club that supported him when he was young.

Glad he got the premiership he was chasing ;)

No doubt!

He played a blinder vs Sturt at Adelaide Oval in about Round 2 or 3 last year and that was his best outing ever in red and blue! IIRC that's about the time this thread was started.

I guess you can't believe much coming from the mouths of officials at Norwood.

Didn't the ABC simply say he had played his last game for Norwood? The Nwd officials said something different - that he was injured and unable to play vs the Eagles, which was in response to rumours put to them. Two different things, but it seems to me that both the ABC and the Nwd Officials were correct in each of their respective contexts.
