WWT led and appeared to be holding off Phillips
Phillips had about the last shot of the game
A goal and Phillips wins the match
But
His shot for goal was off line and went thru for a point
5-5 WWT
5-1 Simon Phillips
WWT hang on for victory

The loss was as bad as we have ever had. Some people around me were drawing comparisons with that disaster against Sturt last year early in the season. I disagreed becase I believe the difference was that in that game we were just making ridiculous mistakes i.e. kicking into the player on the mark so we were always going to get better and quite quickly.
This game against norwood we were just thoroughly outplayed, in part because Norwood played really well but also because our there are huge deficiencies in our team. I've listed three things below that really stand out to me
1. Our forward line is too reliant on Grocke. He has no support from any tall around him and we lack a midsized Westbrook/Treeby who is also able to take a markt and kick a goal. The failure for our recruiting staff to identify this in recent seasons and react is a major reason why we are never able to kick more than about 10-11 goals per match.
2. Our lack of speed kills us. We have known for some time the eagles' official recruiting policy has been to avoid recruiting/developing midfielders with speed in preference to the heavier/taller (but far slower) midfielder. I think a this works ok against a team like centrals or when the ground is wet and heavy but in dry conditions and at times when we are getting killed in ruck (i.e. the Bock factor see below) then this exposes us.
3. There is no backup to Parry. This one is quite simple. Parry is the league's dominant ruckman no doubt. However when he goes on we are effectively playing one man down because Bock comes on and gives nothing. No hitouts, no marks, no possessions. Meanwhile, the opponent's ruckman has every opportunity to stamp dominance on the game during this time and this has been the case so far this season. If we had support for Parry then he would also be very useful to rest up forward where he would be a good target and would kick 1-2 goals a game. If we are unlikely to get Redden back and Hoban continues his absence then Godden HAS to bring up whoever is rucking in the reserves, even if he is 16 years old to support Parry. Failing that then Grieger/Grocke will have to pinch hit there which is not the ideal solution.

Sumner just doesn't get enough touches and hasn't a defensive bone in his body. Unfortunately, Fairclough and Bock aren't just up to it. I hope my observations are proven wrong!
