Cullen Bailey to be the Highest paid net bowler in the country then......

Nope, believe he wasn't offered a contract along with Crossthwaite, OB and Theo.
Might be a couple others aswell and one might be a surprise

Who is the surprise?

Great move IMO. Quality cricketer, quality captain. Will benefit us greatly in all forms.

Only speculation at the moment but ive heard that the coach doesn't rate one of the quicks who I think is ok.
Believe George, Putland and Mennie are the only 3 quicks contracted so far.

FFS how about concentrating on our weaknesses?

Correct.
What a great promotion to our already delfated district cricketers on the opportunities available in SA.
Joke is SA cricket.
Imagine the other states having a giggle at the moment. :? :? :?

Unfortunately, at the moment our quality players don't seem to be quality leaders, barring Maxy, remember the Nathan Adcock experiment. Does Ferg get mentioned as a leader ?

Good move in my opinion. Shrewd cricketer, and will be a good captain. Allows Klinger to focus on his main strength, which is making a mountain of runs in all forms of the game. Also felt Klinger was out of his depth as captain at times, especially in the closing overs of the Big Bash final where it seemed to be captaining by committee.

Easily better than any other spinning option available in SA when Lyon is on test duty, and can bat which will bolster our lower middle order (and allow Mennie to bat at least one spot further down the order!!).

Funny how the 2 people on this site who think Lee is Australia's greatest one day bowler, think Botha is a good pick.

I can just see next season
When he plays poorly, a brigade of critics will surface and post
When he performs , the same critics will be missing in action
You know the usual

SA is getting the services of an International cricketer

We are getting a very good player, not a player who struggles to make another Domestic State team

Hasn't played a first class game for over 15 months, and probably wouldn't have again if we didn't sign him. Travels the globe going where the money is.

LOL please inform me how you know this bloke will improve us at first class level when he is only average in his home countries first class cricket.

What captaining is quality and when have you seen him bowl and bat quality.

This would be an interesting scenario next season
By a quirk, Richie Benaud makes a comeback , and is selected to play Test matches for Australia
This would privide a quandry of sorts in the Sheffield Shield
Nathan Lyon is available to play for South Australia

The question is
Who would be selected in SS games ?
Botha or Lyon or both ?

Why do we always go for Bitza players, they do a little bit of this and a little bit of that but nothing overly great. O'Brien and Theo come to mind who wouldnt make the side at either bowling or batting but because they do a bit of both they get a game.

This is what some past SA players are saying

ASHLEY rowdy MALLETT
Encouraging chuckers
Its ridiculous
We shouldnt be encouraging chuckers- and hes got a very questionable action
So I hope he can bat

ERIC fritzy FREEMAN
Using the captaincy as a bargaining chip to lure an international player undermined the honour of leading the state
Im absolutely stunned
I dont approve of it all
It really is selling the captaincy
Im amazed theyve gone outside to appoint a captain who knows nothing about the Shield scene here

Thats 2 points of view, by cricketing greats
And 2 points to view from last seasons Sheffield Shield season

Perhaps a similar move to when Tassie recruited Dan Marsh? The SACA can't do much worse. It's just a pity one bloke who actually performs is losing the captaincy. Maybe he'll be better off without the captaincy though. Good luck Botha. Hardest job on the planet!

If the young cricketers in district ranks needed anymore reason to be disheartened, well here we have it.

If it isnt duds like Doropopopupopulopoulos, Blizzard etc etc being recruited from interstate second XI teams to end up playing district cricket then its blokes with questionable ( twice! ) actions being recruited from T20 ranks around the world to lead us up the 4 day ******* ladder. For crying out loud.

What the **** is going on? This bloke doesn't even play 4 day cricket anywhere and we recruit him specifically to lead our Shield side. All he does is chase coin to play T20 cricket and he wont join the side until September this year! FFS, even club cricketers are training together by that stage.

It sickens me to think anyone involved at the SACA would even try and defend this steaming pile.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

With this statement I would urge all SACA members to demand accountability at the next AGM. When the vote cards arrive read what the candidates have to say and send it back to the SACA ASAP.
