The best Grand Finals in history were between Norwood and Port. 1984 is the best game of football I have ever seen ( Norwood winners )... 1980 comes second ( Port winners ).
Still I guess you other clubs will never come close to, or ever understand the deep seated rivalry between Norwood and Port.

I don't think you're giving a lot of us on this site much credit. Probably most of us can remember back 28 years and even 32 years. The meaning of tradition also isn't "somethink" that's too hard to grasp. What about the GF in 1901? To say the "best Grand Finals in history were between Norwood and Port" is taking a bit away from South's win in 1899 (just one example). Then again, if you say so.
"A rilvary that goes back centuries"?.. :-?
You may also be confused between other clubs understanding the rivalry and giving a stuff.

Wouldn't be the first time a topic being discussed on here was stupid, and I doubt it will be the last either.
1997 was a great GF, if you support Norwood that is & 1999 was quite a good Gf as well. Only my opinion tho......

For the two clubs mentioned it is, but I'd find it hard to argue Central V Eagles is any less, not as long standing for sure.

When you think traditional rivals Port / Norwood comes to mind for most SANFL fans.

Incorrect SANFL would bar up* if any of the big four (Sturt, Port, Norwood, Glenelg) got in....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

From my perspective the Eagles v Centrals rivalry doesn't feel as strong in the general (not SANFL) community because of the AFL media saturation and our (Eagles) small supporter base, only getting 25k rather than 35k. Port and Norwood will always be the no 1 rivalry.

FWIW I reckon the 1999 GF is very underrated.

However, while people talk about Norwood and Port rivalry, has there ever been a time period where they have been the two (or two out of three) most dominant teams for a period, like CD and WWT for most of the last dozen years? Or Port v West in the 50's, Sturt v Port in the 60's, Bays v North in the mid 80's. Even, say, 75-84 both teams were up and down at different stages.

You think ? If you go back and look at crowds as an indicator for rivalry you might find Norwood /Port isn't the be all and end all .

I would love a Norwood V Port GF now , it would be a novelty.
