Our Missy. What do you reakon? Her affected vocals p*** me off beyond belief but then I acknowlege she has some OK tunes. I find myself liking her and despising her in equal measures, something I've not experienced since Ella Hooper from Killing Bloody Wilson or whatever. So you'd be halving my therapy bill by helping me decide one way or another.

She's a talentless rag and I despise her and her music and before any of her fans have a swipe at me, just ask yourself whether she'll be around in a couple of years time.
Perhaps by then she could re-invent herself and call herself "Mrs. Higgins" and get a gig on the ABC singing cover versions of Nana Mouskouri songs.

I think the real blame here should be directed at Radio Stations/Record Companies, for subjecting us to her music ad nauseam- It's not Missy' fault she's overexposed... I'm not a fan of her music, but let's blame the right people/forces

i'll put my neck out here and state that she's a talented singer-songwriter

but i can understand how the average footy supporter isn't gonna be a fan, not unless she does an acca-dacca cover or something

Not a fan, but I reckon she has talent. I think she's had her path smoothed by the rise of "organic" style acts like The Waifs.

At first and second listen, you think to yourself "Something different for a change". After that you just want to turn the radio off.

Zipper, this poll is an opportunity lost. You displayed all of the creativity of your average over groomed modern rock strumpet with this bland timid entry.

Some suggestions if you please

Missy Higgins is..

Not gay but we all hope she's thinking about it and the DVD's on the way
Top music and if you disagree you are older than South's last premiership flag
Good looking which is why she got a recording deal
Slightly more talented than Delta but that doesn't say much
One of Roman Polanski's former conquests
Something different for a change...until you realise she's not
Yet another front running Centrals fan
    One release away from oblivion
    Making Mark Holden jealous
    Nicky Webster on drugs
    Courtney love without the drugs
A bigger rip off than Jamoruqi
    Nothing without her backing tape
Some bitch I've never heard of because my album collection finished in 1978
    A poor man's Kylie

Don't thank me, man, I'm here to help.

regards,

REB

Has talent but she is a classic example of Record companies promoting certain artists to the hilt, while ignoring established performers for whatever reason.

Who would be an example of an established artist that is ignored by their record company?

Thanks (genuinely) for those, but....

James Reyne - very moderate amount of talent. Plays pretty regularly around Melbourne, but it will set you back $20 so I don't think he's eating home brand baked beans.
John Farnham under-promoted? Please.
Tina Arena - I like her. I'll give you that one.
I can't discern Human Nature's use-by date because it's covered in thick dust.
Ian Moss - played the Spiegeltent here in Melbourne recently and said in an interview that he didn't know anything about the venue. Contemporary Credibility = 0.
The Finn Brothers - Neil Finn is still pretty big. There's a new album out of female artists singing Finn classics - "She Will Have Her Way".
I actually like Margaret Urlich, and I'll give you that one. Quite classy and should have been bigger, but to be fair her big hit was 16 years ago.
Deni Hines - I suspect the fact that she is a total spinner has burned her somewhere along the line.

The problem with most of these artists is that they present nothing new, not that the majority of new music is anything to sing about.

Don't know myself Constance. Last I remember of him was a solo album he did 15 years ago.
No worries McAlmanac. I do see Farnham on A Current Affair, Today Tonight and some other shows alot but he certainly gets no radio airplay. Haven't read too good a reviews for his album of classic Aussie tracks or for Human Natures album of Motown classics. I thought Farnhams 33/3rd album was good and the single off of that "man of the hour" but I reckon it had been out for about 18 months before I even knew it was out.

The problem for "Farnsy" is he is just too daggy - not the least bit cool. Tom Jones stays at the top by associating himself with "cool" artists. I saw him massacre a couple of numbers on  Dancing With the Stars (forced in an open plan apartment!) and it was "time's up!". He's got "Black and Blue" by Chain on there - I shudder to think.

Human Nature were on Sunrise the other day, hot on the heels of one of them being on Celebrity Overhaul. That also sounds like "time's up!". :)
