He isnt damaging by foot but can find the footy.....will have to watch the NAB to really see where he fits into the side, but with our new look midfield it'll be hard to find a spot for him.....definately wont get the chances he did last year if poor form arises.

@ Booney- Both look fantastic mate. McCarthy looks strong and possesses explosive pace. Can definately understand why he didnt get games at collingwood but there will be no issues here. He will be a walk up start, looks ready to go and cant wait to see him with boaky, rodan, ebert, gray etc form a midfield which in my opinion, will be very strong in 2-3 years if they stay together. Wingard looks a beauty, so composed for a young lad and will definately push for rnd 1.

suspect he will be playing a lot of footy with Glenelg. The bays will need him

Port will go alright this season. Recurited well and the young midfielders are fitter and that year older. Pick up Ebert who I feel is a big loss for us, he can really play, no doubt about that. Also you oicked up McCarthy who is a good pick up. I would still expect Port to be in the bottom 3 - 4 this year, but I would suspect them to be much more competative throughout the year.

A really pleasing article from the PAFC website today, with the likes of Trengrove and Boak declaring their intent to remain port adelaide players well into the future:

Any others heading down to victor this weekend to catch the game?

Correct and BYO seating!!!!
The local community get ZERO of those gate takings. All that Enc Bay take from the day is a portion of the bar and food takings.

They struggle to get Port fans to travel to West Lakes, why will they go all the way to Victor for a few bucks less with no guarantee they will be able to see the footy? Ludicrous!

Thats a bit ******* crazy to be honest. That wont help out anyone. Even if they had as a general admission at $5-$10, then bang you will get a massive crowd and the bar and food takings would be massive.

No fricken common sense really.

And apparently Encounter Bay FC had to spend about 9k to get the ground turf up to AFL standard so they could host this game.

Then they've had major upgrades around the ground costing the EBFC more money too.

I dont know how it works but I thought it would be more of an AFL thing than a Port thing.

Anyway to today's game, Port impressive in patches, terrible last qtr though. Freo's kicking for goal was shocking.

I expect improvement from Port this year but I think the club is at least a few years away from finals.

Why would you try & make money out of an NAB " Mickey Mouse Cup " game?
Encourage supporters to go & support their club, the AFL know Port need a sh!t load of help to get people through the gates.
If it is the AFL they aint helping Port Power in any form.

Especially with Port showing some positive signs this pre-season. A really short sighted business decision.

Im with GWW on this one, sounds like the AFL and NAB had more of a say in takings than port did.

Still 6,000 saw port once again display good form in patches, but if Primus is making a focus on playing a 4 quarter game we still have a long way to go.

Redden is making a real claim for the number 1 spot. Wasn't winning the centre bounces but was outstanding around the ground. Boak, Cassisi and Gray were their usual selves and O'shea was pleasing across half back winning alot of the footy.

A pleasing aspect of the day for me was our forward entries. Butcher had little or no influence on the game, but we still had multiple avenues through the likes of schultz, stewart, gray, with rotating midfielders chiming in for a couple.

Overall was a good day out. Great effort from EBFC across the day also, cheap beers, good hot food and a game of footy made the trip worth while. Next stop for me is st.kilda in round 1.
