Haven't seen any funnier than my brother's dismissal in U14's, way back in the day for Rosewater. Playing Flinders Park in a semi, I'd opened & was still there when my little bro' strode to the crease as our #11. I met him when he got near the pitch and filled him in on the goal ; 2 balls left in the over. Keep the one on the stumps out and leave anything wide of the pegs. He was 11yo at the time and the pads were that big he was talking in a high pitched voice.

Anyhow, first ball is wide of off stump, and like a top order bat, strode forward and raised his bat well away from the ball, letting it through to the keeper. 2nd bal was down leg-side and his eyes lit up, took an almighty swing at it, swung himself off-balance, pivoted 180 degrees and knocked all 3 stumps clean outta the ground in his follow through.

dont know why mate, but that gave me the biggest laugh so far....
my son played under 10 for gepps cross on sunday.
I have been telling him that when he bats and he goes for a run make it nice and loud for the other batter to hear...simple.
my son hits the ball and yells yes as loud as he could, the non striker then begins to run and stops a little bit down the pitch,
my son looks at him then runs back to his crease and the non striker gets run out :?
I asked my son what had happened at the end of the game and this is the gods honest truth.....
he said....I yelled yes run, I looked up and seen him move a little but he didnt yell ok back to me so I thought he wasnt going to run  .
so if the non striker doesnt yell OK back to you then dont run
taught him well.

Haha! That's coz his Dad doesn't usually need to run when he hits it. ;)

Yep, I'm still dining out on that story almost 30yrs later mate, he hears it a couple of times a year.. :D There was no going to the 3rd umpire for a review of that one.

my very first game of cricket in primary school is very similar to this instead of taking out all 3 stumps i somehow manage to get my bat high enough to swing straight down and chop the bail in half :S

Made my first A Grade hundred as a young fella, thought I'd take the piss with a reverse sweep off their liggie near the end of the day, missed the ball and knocked all three stumps out the ground with my bat....ouch

Just a question i thought i'd throw out to the all knowing population that read this thread....

Is it true now in cricket that the ICC have changed the rule regarding having a "runner"? Is this now disallowed?

Pistol strained his hammy bowling on saturday halfway through an over and went off the ground and didnt come back on.
Im more than happy to let him have a runner but am just interested if this is the case or not. Pritty sure i heard them
talking about it on the cricket a few days ago.

Anyone?

Also what about the mankad rule? is this back in fashion too?

I know the use of the runner has been banned in First Class/List A and above.

In regards to amateur level I have no idea

my grandma has a walking frame he could possibly borrow. quick question though. does the walking frame, with 4 legs, need to have 4 pads on it or just the regulation 2?

The ICC made some rule changes last year, if they weren't introduced at your AGM I'd imagine that you would stick to the former rules.
The PDCA has allowed "runners" this season.

See here for more discussion on it:
http://wickettowicket.com.au/2012/01/22/the-ranatunga-rule-does-it-apply-at-grassroots-level/

It seems as though nobody has any idea, so it is something that should be clarified at the next association AGM, unless there is some directive from the SACA before then.

Surely youre going to let Pistol have a runner? Vi$ta have enough runs for NEK to bat twice without getting those runs.

And the mankad rule only applies in India :)

You Rose park lads are very quiet, have been used to a daily update of crap from you lads all year. Feeling the pressure this week? Be a waste of a year if you don’t jag a flag, Don’t know why you are nervous your over the line, only thing holding you back is the captaincy you play under very average but then that has always been your problem since you have been in the comp. Couger your a great bloke fingers crossed we cross paths in a few weeks big run chase this week but we are quietly confident.

So winning the flag would be lucky (jag) but its a waste of a year otherwise, pfft.

What number are u batting george? I'm anticipating an evasive answer.

yeah george, hopefully we can knock off the 6 wickets and live to fight another week, we will do our best.

you guys should be confident too george? i reckon 280 runs should be gettable with potential batting you have in your lineup and speaking of captains, vistas captain is one of the biggest sooks once you get on top, seems to have his period when things dont go his way, reminds me of an ex gf :)

good luck mate!

Probably quiet on here, cos Rob O'Gorman isn't playing this week. He was the sacrificial lamb so Wehrman can play this week. Young Harry's expression on reading our team sheet was priceless when he saw O'Gorman on it.
