The Magpies just dominated that opening half, their pressure and cleanness of skill the highlight. West Adelaide, conversly, ran themselves into trouble, made poor decisions and turned the footy over too often. Port had plenty of run and drive from half back, particularly through Mark Dolling who, more often than not, finds someone with the footy.

The highlight of the opening half was the performance of West Coast Eagles recruit Callum Wilson. He kicked 4 first quarter goals and has clearly been the best forward on the ground. He was too good in the opening term for Bloods recruit Joel Tippett, although the brother Kirk had some better moments in the second term.

Luke Harder presents well at half forward, along with Josh Thurgood who has a good engine and works hard up the ground, while new recruit Ryan McKenzie had some good moments playing on the ball. After missing a lot of footy last year with a knee reco, Jeremy Clayton has still shown his class on a few occassions, including kicking a couple of goals.

West Adelaide don't look to have any urgency about them, they seem flat and have no fluency going into attack. Daniel Webb and Marc Borholm are trying hard to present well but the delivery hasn't been great inside their 50. There defence has been bombarded with attack from the Maggies with skipper Ryan Ferguson and running defender Ben Fisher having some okay moments.

Bloods would want a massive lift in the second half to just be competitive in this contest otherwise it will be a 20+ goal thrashing...
