No, the ultra important part is that Head and Davey et al are properly prepared before they get to this level. Sadly we find that our young players are not and by that stage any confidence they have in their own ability is rapidly eroded at Shield level.

Well that starts at the top helping out at grade level when available

Is the onus on the likes of Klinger, Harris, Ferguson and co. to develop our younger players then? No way. They need to prepare themselves properly to perfom at a high level, we've got some bloody well paid coaches to look after the younger players techniques, preperation and performance.

That is the high performance department's job then.

If you take that angle then it should be them under the microscope

Absolutely without doubt that should be the case. Honestly, I believe the SACA heirachy have been so consumed by the AO Redevelopment and setting up of the SMA that our performances have almost been ignored.

If that is not the case what the hell are they doing about it then?

Truly is time to tell the old college boys in stripy ties that grade cricket is going to be restructured whether they like it or not.

The wheels are in motion
My man Chuck is doing what was needed
He kept his 20/20 and Ryobi Squads intact, and won a Cup in the 20/20
The SS team is being rebulit
Stray, Head, Smith, Doropolous, Davey, Mennie, Sayers, Tietjens are being given opportunities this season
Its a process, we need to stay patient as supporters of our state team in the SS comp

It's simply too easy to be successful at grade level with the comp as it is. If we make it so that our best batsmen at grade level are facing the best bowlers as much as possible, we'll get our batsmen to improve. We also need to make grade clubs work harder to get a competitive edge. At the moment, blokes who battle away for 5-6 years in C and B grade get a look in ahead of newer more talented blokes. Grade cricket should be so cutthroat that no club can afford to be that sentimental. When we get the best 30 batsmen facing the best 20 bowlers for more than a few overs here and there and get out clubs to exhaust every avenue for improving their team then we'll see blokes far more prepared for state cricket.

How many times do we need to rebuild a side though? We've tried the "give the kids a go" method several times to no avail. Similarly we've tried changing the side constantly to reward form and performance. We've tried recruiting heavily, both big names and small. None of it has changed. The reason seems clear as day to me that our local guys aren't good enough. Ferguson is the best of them and his first class record is woeful with a batting average at 35 through 63 games. And his best years should be right now!

I think it's absolutely no fluke our best players right now are Klinger, Christian, Lyon and Cooper. All 4 from interstate and were at the time B (or lower) grade players in their home states.

SA didnt bat out the 50 overs mate, simple as that
SA 126 [49.3]
SA were well placed at 1/83 b4 capitulating
Stray 51 [117] top scored
Mr Jack Bird that man in his debut season took 4/38 [14.3]
James Faulkner who made Gary Putland look like Alan Davidson recently took 4/22[13]
The Theo made 7

TA are 1/57 in reply [16]
Doolan batting at 3 batted ahead of some guy called R Ponting
Mark Cosgrove retired hurt for 13 but dunno why
Mr Jack Bird is batting 11
The Theo has not been asked to bowl as yet

Another SS match......Another disgraceful batting performance.

How many 'free pass' tickets does Chuck get?
