No its not ok to avoid the swear filter by making spaces between words or putting a pic up with the F or C word in it.
Instead of whinging every member on the site has access to the report button if they see anything they think might be questionable.

Just to keep on topic, IMHO there's predominately 2 types of trolls.
Those who put shit on others but also put shit on themselves and have the ability to laugh and are predominately trying to have a bit of fun, to some these might appear the most obvious trolls. Its almost the Australian way and similar to how a group of blokes would act down the front bar of a pub. They sometimes write/talk a lot of nonsence but are harmess.

The other sort are those who have much deeper (and more) issues, can never handle themselves being ridiculed in anyway and will put others down in a more subtle way always claiming to have better info, etc. They'll think of themselves as educated and better than others. And then when when someone reacts to their initial troll they'll scream and cry like a baby yet usually ignore the report function too.

I have a lot more time for the first type than the 2nd type.

Just to keep on topic, IMHO there's predominately 2 types of trolls.
Those who put shit on others but also put shit on themselves and have the ability to laugh and are predominately trying to have a bit of fun, to some these might appear the most obvious trolls. The other sort are those who have much deeper (and more) issues, can never handle themselves being ridiculed in anyway and will put others down in a more subtle way always claiming to have better info, etc. They'll think of themselves as educated and better than others. And then when when someone reacts to their initial troll they'll scream and cry like a baby yet usually ignore the report function too.

I don't think either of these types fit the profile of the guys that were the subject of the article though. I haven't come across anyone on SAFooty (not even the one poster I have had issues with) that does what those guys do. That's a whole different level of deliberate sabotage. They get off on getting other people upset.

TBH, I think the term "troll" gets thrown around too easily and if those two profiles are what we think of as "trolls" then we are doing pretty well on here. I also think that whether you think a poster is harmless or just having fun is influenced by whether you know them. That's the problem with forums and there is no answer other than somehow meeting fellow posters in real life. I bet 80% of the perceptions we have about posters we don't know are wrong. I include myself here. I bet a lot perceptions I have formed of other posters I have never met are wrong. All you have to go on are anonymous posts on a forum.

Some very good points, on the old Footysa someone threatened to rape my son who was then a toddler, we would never let anything like that happen here nor has anyone resorted to that sort of trolling here. Used to see some shocking things on some ABC forums too.
You're right about the 2 sorts of trolls I described, it was for people I've witnessed on here, as you point out we must be pretty well off if that's the worst sorts of trolls we get.

Ironically IMHO some of the more prolific trolls on this site have been people who have spent a lot of their time calling other's trolls when there's usually a common denominator in who is causing reactions.
