But Mickey. You also have to take into account the four or five hours a day you spend in the TAB and council truck, having lunch and a chat and lounging around. Not a bad sort of gig for you blokes on the PAE council. :D

Now now yardy, not all of us hard working council workers are tarnished with the old school early 80s brush...

And I wasn't actually referring to council prepared wickets... would be cheaper getting council to do them compared to each club hiring their own curator.

Hard working council workers =)) =)) =)) You will find the PAE council at around $35 per hour are the cheapest going around, doing wickets and largely subsidise clubs with that price. There are many councils however, who are far more expensive than that. Also there is a company (won't mention the name) who prepares wickets for clubs now and has done for a few years, because it costs far too much for the clubs to do their own wickets due to council costs and for all the preparation, the purchasing of equipment etc, etc. Now that then costs a fair bit more again.

Yeah I was referring to PAE, the rough figures I'm aware of is about $6k per year for the preparation of cricket wickets.

Trent Kelly does wickets, and charges like a wounded bull, but has the machinery expenses to justify it.

The benefit of clubs having their own dedicated curator is the availability Saturday mornings, especially after a Friday night shower.

Trent does give good service though.

At my grade club we use a private contractor (not Trent) and roughly blow 40k a year on pitch preparation...

40k a season sounds pretty excessive on the face of it.. but that's before asking how many decks, practice nets, what equipment etc...

You are right Mickey. Most clubs around 6K or around $250 a wicket is around the mark. Some clubs are higher and some lower, depending on the club situation. Trent Kelly was the person I was going to mention who does the wickets but left out. Yes very expensive as you said, but as Heater says he obviously gives great service. 40K a year from the private contractor, would include two wickets for the club each weekend and practice wickets on 3 or 4 nights I am thinking. Probably a bit excessive, but every club has a choice - as do the curators.

we had a private company do ours for the first 2 two years, preparing two decks. they put their prices up to $24000 so we parted ways.
trent helps me with pre-season repairs as we dont have a scarifier and i reckon his prices are very good. good bloke too.

He is getting a good reputation fast. Already does West Torrens wickets as well as Prospect who used to rely on council. I'm sure he has turf clubs on his books.

What was the go in the B2 game between Trinity and Golden Grove? Trinity made 290 first week, but Golden Grove listed as winning on Forfeit.

Would that mentor be Kevin Lewis? Great curator and former West Torrens leggy, with a million A Grade wickets.

I believe the spanners at trinity prepared the wrong deck for the second week
There once was a bloke named Fracka,
Scored runs since he was a young tacka,
But alas not anymore,
his shot selection's been poor,
and now they call him QUACKA!!

If true, then it is the second time this year. SPOC did it in A2 earlier in the year against Concordia. Nice way to play cricket - collect 18 points (plus bonus points for first week) and spend a lazy arvo in the Sports Bar
