Defeats the purpose of having promotion and delegation at this grade then.

It give any club that wins the flag the perfect excuse NOT to excersise their right to promotion. Who'd want to go up a grade and lose 4 players?

Well they way it was they were going to keep coming up with motions until they got what they wanted.
How you can let just the Div 8 clubs vote on it is beyond me.
This excuse they used about it giving 4 extra guys a game each week per club is crap. What happens if u finish top and have to go up, do u then tell those 4 guys they cant play anymore because you can only have 21 in Div 7?
Was a farce and certain people were going to carry on until they got what they wanted

The best thing I can say is judge it at the end of the year and see if it is an issue

If it doesn't work then can be rectified for the future

Obviously the ideal situation would be to have 70 clubs all with minimum 2 sides then there wouldn't be a need for C Grade sides to play against A Grade sides

Div 8 is the 'C' and 'D' grade of the teams involved..........I think we are forgetting what the lower grades are for.
Having more people get a game...and paying club membership, supporting their club.......has to out weigh anything else IMO.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

Div 8 is seen by some people on the executive as a grade in which c and d grade sides can play - but not generally seen as the stepping stone to div 7 - eg if ovingham wish to have a b grade they'll go into div 7 and play other a grade sides rather than div 8.
Promotion would only come about after a prolonged time of winning eg flinders park.
Div 8 is a c grade competition - if we wish sides to play it then it makes sense to utilise the same rules as the other c grade competitions.
Personally, I'd have capped numbers at 23 anyway.

Excuse my ignorance but if you cap Div 8 (as suggested above) at 21 players wouldn't EACH club then have to tell 4 guys they can't play anymore because you can only have 21 in Div 8?? Makes sense to have the extra players in this grade as it is solely a 'C' and 'D' grade comp and let's be honest how many 'D' graders last out a full season??

And what you say about losing 4 players if you are promoted into Div 7......bollocks!! It happened to our C grade a few years back where we had 4-5 players miss out on a game each week as we had that many numbers. Players were rotated to give everyone games throughout the season and come finals time the best starting line up was selected based on form.

Not quite sure what is in the air out your way but if u have 25 on a team sheet in Div 8 then 21 on a team sheet in Div 7, to me, being a simple man, means 4 less guys can play each week?
Also would be a lot easier if certain clubs didnt play players well below where they should play!

Mate the air out at GG is full of eucalyptus but that's another story....

If you continue to read my paragraph (english obviously not a stong point) I understand you can only have 21 players on a team sheet in Div 7 but that's not stopping you having a squad of 25 players to pick that 21 players from!!!!

All good bro, only throwin in humour. Simply at our d's sometimes 10 blokes miss out each week and other weeks the coaches are having to ring players to come out being short of numbers

Maybe meet it half way and say 22 players only

Cos one team might only hav 19 players and the other could have 25 and could become totally unfair

That is what would have happened had the vote gone the other way? If we had the regular 21 we would then lose 8 players. Why does there need to be promotion/relegation from this grade anyway?

Not sure. We are the lowest ranked side in the comp in terms of where our A grade sit I believe. I dont think we would want to be promoted to div 7 if we did well. Technically we could end up in div 7 next year and our A grade in div5 (obviously not the plan). Thats too close. I think we want to be in this comp so we have both our C and D grade at the same grade each week. You can call the div what you want Div 8/div 8 res or you could have these sides in C5 and C6 makes no difference.

If they kept this comp all the time as a division for just C and D grade sides I would not have a problem with it at all.

No, promotion and relegation - as I understand it - is from c4-c1. Division 8 is for those four sided clubs whose c grades would be no match for division 7 a grade teams but so they can minimise volunteers required by clubs with their c and d grades playing together.

Thats an excellent point Finn, I know already that our club only needs 2 trainers now instead of 3 (A/Bs and C/Ds instead of A/Bs, Cs and Ds). Im sure their would be other examples of this. Also its more of a club feel travelling together and playing at the same ground every week.
