Yeah I did... He was a very good player and was probably 14th or 15th on that list. Roy Laird was also a very good player and bloody sharp back in the day before his back issues too.

Craig got Centrals over the line in a GF against us..... We were defending 120ish and had them 8/90 with him at the crease. Although we dropped him, he still did the business that day.

Had some great duels with Roy.

You got me thinking Oz how tough it use to be being a 16-17 yo opener floating between games in div 1,2,3,4. Every division had its quicks and gun bowlers.

div 1 had the likes of Jonesy, Thomas, Lairdy, at Centrals, North, McInness, Oz at SW, SN had O'Brien, Johnston, Jossy, OTH had Heinrich, Armitt, Danny Stevens.

then clubs like that floated in between divs like Smithfield had Col, Leg, Craigmore had Moore, Carmen, Oliver what a trio, EP had the likes of Steve Warren, Mobbs, Willow, a young Kenny Mac, Benny Hancock, South Gawler had Bevis (he was probably the quickest i faced ) even in div 3 and 4 you had Willaston with Troy Bennie (scariest bowler i have faced) Fields had Scotty Donaldson, Donger, we had Robby Latrobe in our b grade. Other blokes like Jason Hull were floating in between clubs and young blokes such as Chrissy McLean, Kev Thomas, Rocco, Chris Hughes, Willy were all bursting into senior cricket.

GOOD TIMES!!!!

Great side!

Did you play much against Craig Laird i dont remember to much about him but alot of the old EP boys talk about him as being one of the best from Centrals around the era where they were dominating.

How strong was PDCA through the 90's and early 2000's!

A hell of a lot stronger than today, that is for sure. Not putting down any players around today but I was discussing the same thing with Bagster on Saturday. Never a easy game back then.

Even in Grade 3, back then B grade teams in Grade 3 were unheard of.

I reckon since Ive been at Westies, the B's have never been lower than Grade 3.

I was referring to early 90's, my memory is a little jaded though.

I recall 94 being a very difficult season in Grade 3 when Smithfield re-entered after 2 years in exile.

Yes, bowled well in tandem with Kingy, could be pretty sharp on his day.

Got me thinking!! When EP b grade were in div 4 around 99' 00' we played PG in one of the all time classic GF's except for we loss. Some great catches, a couple of brilliant run outs and a few cameos with the bat. The side i batting order was
1. Ben Whalan
2. Ritchie Smith
3. Jamie McCafferty
4. Nathaniel Brookes
5. Jarrod Hughes
6. Carey Payne (C)
7. Bradley Banks
8. Bryan Gatto
9. Rob Latrobe
10. Lyndon Matthews
11. Tom Radford

That was without doubt the most enjoyable/fun/exciting cricket teams i played in. We werent the best or anything like that but BOY did we have a good time every Saturday and Saturday night.

Norton could be very sharp but also eratic if you got on top of him.
Always loved playing against Salis Nth with OB, always had a word of advice for all batsmen.
PG back in the 90s I think had a young C Rundle and J Hulls as opening bowlers, very quick.
EP with Warren, Hennessy 2 left handed openers who loved to scare the bejesus out of bats.
Ledge at Smitty, a guy by the name of Brown from CU, plenty of decent bowlers.

I played in a Grade 3 GF in 93/94 as a 14yo.... Warren, playing for South Gawler had broken the batsman's arm and he retired hurt and I had to go in..... Nice.

Laverty was sharp too !

He was heavily involved and in some way is closely related to EP club legend 'Bones'

He was a stocky smallish bloke with a slinging action. In the first year of the Sunday comp he broke Shaun Gatto(?) forearm with a delivery that hit him straight on it.

His son Nathan is the opening bowler for Virginia.

Some names i remember from the a while ago where the 2 opening bowlers Tully and Turnball? I thought they could send them down.
Thought Kingy from one of the Gawler clubs could bat. Whiteaker from EP could bat.
Doc from Para teachers then Golden grove could bowl ok

It seems as though Us, Units and Goats want to get relegated, when the time came to stand tall, all 3 teams went into their shells.
We were appalling, Secca's bowled well but we batted shit, Units couldn't of asked for a better opportunity to get maximum points by bowling first and the Gardens were defiant and hung around all day thanks to Bazza who would have to be the most boring batsman to grace the PDCA, 39 off 56 overs, I can believe it.
The Goats on the other hand would've gone in rather pleased with themselves after dismissing Westies for 156, to be 4/18 off 17 at stumps would not have been what they were after.

Although the finals race has been run, it's still pretty much game on to stay in Grade 1 for 3 clubs.

Played against OTH C grade, one guy was defending before you even released the ball. Once against our B grade he batted the last 10 overs on day 1, was still not out with around 2 overs to go in the match and asked how many for his 50. He'd scored 40 off 80 overs or so in a losing cause.
