As referees director i am pleased to report that i have been told at different times this season that every single referee has been labelled a disgrace at one time or another by someone  . Including myself regularly as of late  Im not sure how i went from the Ref that is asked to ref the Australasian finals to a weekly disgrace but apparently it has happened and the entire referees fraternity of SA has gone down the gurglar with me :? . Sometimes it is done in a politically correct manner with an attempt made to justify reasons for this label and at other times it has been done ala a petulant child like display.

As the most under paid refs in sport and coming into finals i would love to see some players make there focus on the ball rather than the ref who will make mistakes based on the fact he is a human being  In the coming weeks team after team is going to be eliminated from finals and inevitably the on going sooky sooky lala fits will continue. I will be encouraging refs to take a tough stance on dissent and the use of foul language when adressing the referee.

No club or individual has been adressed in this post and i do not wish for this to turn into the great ref debate. I quite simply put this post up to hopefully get the Hannigan Cup Finals being about the football and not the refs or any mistakes they make. Refereeeing IS WHAT IT IS and the decisions made by the refs WILL BE WHAT THEY WILL BE.

So has the schedule for the Men's finals been finalised? Obviously its Shonkas (1st) vs Na Fianna (2nd) and Western Ireland (3rd) vs Taints (4th) on Friday night - SURELY with only 2 games on, we aren't playing at the ludicrous time of 9:15pm...??

But alas you are. Na Fianna agreed to have our game moved to 8.30 and have you go on at 7.15 as you spoke to me about. We did get around that idea but Western Ireland were unable to accomodate you. The Finns are willing to play later but not earlier than the scheduled time of 8pm as Nick delvins and Andy read have their manscaping appointments earlier that night ;)

Ludicrous!!

Not the fact that it couldn't be shifted, but the fact that its been scheduled like that all year. Perhaps the goose who runs the website should have simply changed it?? :-k

The Taints havent played 15aisde - or even 13aside for that matter - in about a month, with a match against 11, followed by a bye, and then a 10 aside scratchie last week. Here's hoping we can either get straight back into the swing of 15aisde Gaelic - or our recent form continues and the Mountaingoats rock up with 5 players...

Too bad Rupert isnt around to provide a review of the upcoming finals...

I find it amusing when the referee cops a barrage of abuse when they have made the correct decision! A lot of people seem to be playing this game with little knowlege of the rules of the game, some of the comments are downright embarrassing.

I think a lot of the frustration comes more from the consistency of decisions but that's a different kettle of fish.

WW, can we get you to wear a hat while you're coaching so that we know it is in that role you are trying to bamboozle the umpire* from the sidelines?

*or is it Ref...

Am very excited Cash123! Onkas (1) vs Na Fianna (2) at 8:00pm, and Western Ireland (3rd) vs St Brendans (4th) at 9:15pm.

Will Matty Whyallaford be fronting up for Onkas tonight? How will Na Fianna's Red Leg contingent pull up after a Friday night training session? Will be a close game i would imagine, i will tip Onkas by 1-5 as they appeared to get rid of the finals monkey from their backs last year, and they havent lost a game since round 1-ish.

In the later game (very late) Western Ireland and St Brendan's clash in the finals yet again. Western Ireland have lost 2 in a row coming into finals but at least have played some tough Gaelic over the past month, whilst the Taints have had 3 x mismatches/byes/forfeits on the trot - yet somehow we still have injury concerns! I will tip us (obviously) by 1-5.

Who is playing who on Sunday in the Div 2 thing?

Im Going for the upset with Na Fianna over Onkas dont ask me why just have a feeling. I think Wester Ireland will be a little to good for St Brendans espically considering they have been in some tight games lately although not winning just think it will help.

Although some being against the Div 2 finals or not caring I think it is a positive for the league. Has given the 4 other teams something to fight for after Christmas and if another state league team happened to start up it just adds that bit of experience that helps further down the track.Port v Flinders will be an interesting game. Port have had the wood over Flinders this year and will be looking to go onto claim their first piece of silverware all beit Div 2.

The IA v Mitcham game will be close and could go either way but I'm tipping IA to get up and try and chase down Port to have a double torphy game in the Div 2 final and Shane O'Donnel Cup again.

Should be an exciting weekend of gaelic!!!

I'll tip an upset tonight as well & Na Fianna to get up in a close one.
Make it a dual upset, Taints to get it done against Western tonight. The Taints boys love finals footy & I think they've got a result in them.
In the other cup, I'm scared to make bold predictions on the Port & Flinders game. Depends which players rock up, a footy event may hurt Port & makes me inclined to pick Flinders, who knows...
Irish v Mitcham, I think Irish should get up.

In the women's I'd be expecting the 'invincible' Irish Blues to get it done over Onkas.
I'll also pick an upset with Na Fianna's girls to get over the Rovers in what should be a fairly fiesty match based on some of the previous encounters

Onkas vs Na Fianna - Onkas, mainly because well, they dont really lose, will be a tough game, Onkas with a little more pace and attacking options, but if Na fianna can keep the scores low they could well win it...

Saints Vs Western - a bit hard to tip as we had useless sides against the Saints both times and decent sides against Western and 2 very tight close games....ill go Western just...but I could be wrong

Port Vs Flinders - Game likley to get moved to 8:45 Sunday due to the weather, and hopefully a Flinders win

Irish Vs Mitcham - Irish, if they have their Irish playing....
