Vic 2nd INN 7/84 - 181
SA 1st INN 7/90 - 100
SA 2nd INN 7/248 - 267

Ah k, I meant batsmen 9 10 and 11 individual scores. Our last 3 went 3, 0, 0 then 0, 3, 0

No prob.
I dont expect the tail to be great batters but you have to be able to hold up an end. Head could have won us the game if someone could stick with him, he panicked knowing that the last 2 wouldnt hang around and got out to a shot he probably wouldnt have played at. We saw Holland who is a shocker make more in 1 innings than our bottom 4 put together for the match

Would be interesting if someone analytical like mal or MP did some player ratings... Wouldn't think many players would have earnt more than 4

Well it's a positive that Head was able to make a half century when the pressure was on in only his 2nd game. SA won't be a force until they can put together consistently decent 1st innings totals and he looks like one the team can look to in the future.

I will go by what I saw
Smith - Failed in both digs - 1
Stray - Got starts but couldnt convert, gutsy dig in 1st - 4
Klinger - Not great, stuck around in 1st for awhile, captaincy wasnt great - 3
Ferguson - Good 2nd dig, needed to go on with it - 6
Cooper - Put his hand up again in 2nd dig, 2 starts, needed a biggie - 6
Head - Great promise, panicked a bit in 2nd dig but who wouldnt batting with our tail - 6
Crosswaite - Kept ok, batting is ordinary at best - 3
Sayers - Close between him and Mennie for our best. Bowled well, showed some grit with the bat - 8
Mennie - Bowled superbly, has really improved. Batting is deplorable, brings down his rating - 8
Tietjens - Bowled ok, good variation, batting not great - 6
George - Bowled well without luck, cant bat - 4

Are you rating these blokes out of 20 or what?! Seriously got smacked this game, and if it wasnt for Cooper, Head & Ferguson scoring some handy runs in the 2nd innings the result would've been more embarassing!! No player in that side deserves a score above 5.. if they deserved a 6 or an 8 then we probably would've won the game.

Disappointing result given where Ferg and Cooper got us.

Those two were positives, as were Head, Sayers and Mennie, the rest struggled.

I will not get pissed at guys like Stray or Tietjens struggling, because we are giving the new lads a go, and trying to get them adjusted for 2012-13.

Klinger and George producing abject fails are disappointing though.

They got us nowhere as 1 had to go on with it and be there at the end.

INTERESTING CALLUM FERGUSON STATS 2011/2012

First Innings- 104 runs, 8 innings, hs-26, ave-13.00
Second Innings- 382 runs, 7 innings, hs-126, ave-54.57

TOTAL- 486 runs, 15 innings, hs-126, ave- 32.40

Make up your mind what that says about him!

Will be interesting to see what value people put 1st innings runs compared to 2nd innings runs.

What I take out of that is...

When the result is beyond doubt, and there is not much riding on his back, he scores comfortably.
When he tries to save the game in the first dig, he spuds up.

He is the new Ben Hook  ;)

In all seriousness a lot of his 2nd dig knocks have probably saved his behind on many occasions

Cop out.
This is a bloke who burst onto the scenes, played ODI for Australia with a degree of success and has proved he is capable of producing big scores.
He has been nothing short of a disappointment this season, I just hope Tom Cooper doesn't go the same way next season and can back up his productive year.

Stray 47 runs at 23.5 - ok, some fight and worth persisting with: 5 (4 if more experienced)
Smith 9 runs at 4.5 - no impact: 0
Klinger 25 runs at 12.5 - he is the captain and managed to get out in the last half hour of the
Day twice. Failed to make the bowling change to remove holland: 2
Ferguson 73 runs at 36.5 - great second innings, no confidence, needed to concentrate better after lunch interval: 5
Cooper 77 runs at 38.5 - always offers something, but again dismissed twice in the first few overs of a session: 6
Head 59 runs at 29.5 - congrats on his first 50. Forgettable first innings: 6
Crosswaite 16 runs at 8 - didn't see any of his keeping but if batting was terrible: 1
Sayers 33 runs at 33 and 7 wickets - couldn't of done much more and we shouldn't expect much more with his experience: 8
Mennie 3 runs at 1.5 and 8 wickets - great with the ball, and gave us something to chase, batting too high, a genuine bunny: 7
Teitjens 3 runs at 3 and 4 wickets - serviceable with the ball, can't complain too much: 6
Gerorge 0 runs at 0 and 1 wicket - a game to forget: 2

Team score 48/110

Dosclaiimer: I watch none of the game. Stats might not be 100% correct. I have NFI anyway.

Seems he struggles when there is a bit of life in the pitch.
When the juice goes out the pitch he looks far better. Maybe a touch of the flat track bully, maybe he changes his style 2nd innings or maybe like some other posters have said most of his runs come when the result is already beyond doubt.
Whatever it is he needs to sort it out, a decent batsman needs to perform in the 1st dig

And there lies the problem. I am willing to bet anyone who has the time would find that only Cooper has pass marks in the first dig, and I think even he has a better second innings record this year.
