South's 2012 Clash Guernseys

Postby Wedgie » Fri Feb 10, 2012 7:36 am

Hopefully someone will post a link/pic bit its in todays Advertiser. Looks a lot like a Geelong top and also is historic for Soutb as they wore hooped guernseys from the 1880s to 1911 and again from 1956 to 1959.

Great to see clubs continue the recent trend of going with historic and/or simple strips as opposed to some of the atrocities that uave come out in the past.

Good work South!

Hate it! Last years alternative was excellent as it maintained the SAFC guernsey historic integrity. Why introduce a Geelong FC wannabe on the tenuous thread of small periods of the past when the club for the vast majority of its history wore the navy blue and white that everone recognises as the SAFC brand identity and which also was worn by premiership sides in 1930's and 1964. I do, however, agree it's better than most alternative "modern" design jumpers we've seen in recent years.

No darley16...... I did not see the problem with the white away guernsey from last year.

I loved the plain white with blue SA logo prominate at the front.

But I'll have to live with it ......as long as they win!!! ;)

I'm surprised nobody has commented on the prominence of the sponsor's logo. I know it's a necessary evil these days but what a shame...ruins any attempt at 'authenticity' or heritage IMO

Assuming most supporters liked last years version & it served the purpose of being a clash guernsey, then I guess the only motivation to change it would be to generate some income from sales. Wondering roughly how many they would have sold of last years design, how many they would expect to sell of the new one, and what sort of revenue would this generate?
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

I reckon a key driver, more important than merchandise sales, would be the need to highlight the sponsor's logo better. A yellow logo on white wouldn't work. I think they have used a heritage design to soften the blow of losing last year's "inverted" design.

The Aussie one day cricket side coincidentally went to a dark green uniform at the same time as the yellow Commonwealth Bank logo was needed.

I don't have an issue with South taking this approach. I like the design but also if we want our clubs to be financially successful we have to accept alternate guernsies, sponsors logos, etc.
In between signatures .....
