Next Test Debutants from Each State

Postby CoverKing » Mon Feb 06, 2012 4:41 pm

Clearly bored, and cant be stuffed doing my exam study. I have been thinking about this for a while.

Who will be the next player from each state to debut for Australia in the test arena?

I'll have a stab:

VIC: Matthew Wade
NSW: Josh Hazlewood
QLD: Cameron Boyce
SA: Tom Cooper
WA: Nathan Coulter-Nile
TAS: James Faulkner

I did consider picking out a under 13 lad from NSW to represent Australia as the next South Australian

Just to for debate I'll pick different player for each state...

SA: Dan Christian. Why? Because Shaun Marsh is under the pump and Shane Watson can't get on the park.
WA: Mitchell Marsh. Why? As above. Probably 3rd in the pecking order for Allrounder spot due to form.
VIC: Rob Quiney. Why? On the back of two centuries, with his next 4 innings against the rabble known as the redbacks. Can be assumed that he will score at least 1 century in the upcoming fixtures. Top 3 still uncertain for national team. Likeable guy.
QLD: Forrest. Why? Being born in Nsw is know to be an advantage. Already on national radar and in form.
NSW: O'keefe. Why? Has several weapons in his game including leadership. Lyon isn't going to be inform/fit forever.
TAS: Bailey. Wasn't pick as t20 captain for his t20 record. Obviously highly regarded person to be amongst young cricketers.

I don't think we will see any pace bowlers debut for a while now with first cummins, starc, Pattinson and Johnston all out of the XI
The death penalty can never be excused as it allows a state a means by which it can pick and choose who is fit to live and who isnt

Peter Nevill must be a shot aswell, i think they have a love affair with Wade but keepers are prone to injuries so Nevill would be next in line

He would be close, but not sure how you can claim the selectors have a love affair with Wade? He has played 4 t20's (haddin retired and paine injured and clearly the next best t20 keeper/batsmen), same as the ODI but haddin being rested?, and never been in a test squad.

Its more the media than anything with the love affair.

Just seems as though Wade will be selected straight into the test side.

Jim
Exactly what else does Wade need to do to convince you he is a superior cricketer to Neville ?
Neville has improved out of sight, but still not as good as Wade

In fact if Wade was not a keeper you would pick him as a batsman to replace Shaun Marsh in Tests
Wades batting in all forms of Domestic + International cricket is outstanding this season

Wade is definately the man for T20 and ODI's but am not convinced about him in the longer form. Will make the transition to tests batting wise no problems but dont think his glovework is that great, probably only par with Haddin and everyone complains about Haddin's work behind the stumps

VIC: Matthew Wade
NSW: Kurtis Patterson (within two years)
QLD: Dan Christian (refer next line)
SA: Not sure, but I don't think they are playing there now. Christian to play next year after switching to QLD.
WA: Nathan Coulter-Nile
TAS: Travis Birt (has had success at T20, which makes him a monty)

Lynn and Boyce are obvious prospects from Qld, Boyce you'd think would be a couple of years away unless the selectors make a big call. Lynn could be next with the way our batting is going, but don't forget Cutting was 12th man for the first test, though admittedly Hilf, Harris and Siddle have all come back beyond expectations.
