One of the greatest domestic players has retired from one day cricket. Still probably one of the best in the world at limited overs, however we will never really know due to ignorant selection.
The death penalty can never be excused as it allows a state a means by which it can pick and choose who is fit to live and who isnt

Hodge continues to be a strong performer at Twenty20 level and last week was picked up for $140,000 by the Barisal Burners in the Bangladesh Premier League auction.

The reason for his non-selection is simple really, he didnt keep his mouth shut.

Same thing happened with Hookes.

Crap about Hookes, his international form didn't justify sustained selection at that level, unfortunately for one of the great cricketers of the time.
