Oh No , I just bloody realised how disappointed the Gowans twins will be when they wake up one day and know that their careers arent really complete because they havent played in the Roxtel Cup  . Yeh the Roxtel Cup ...... where average SANFL teams play meaningless games that promote none of their sponsors , just to get there rocks off in the middle of the season ( No finals again heh ? )

Yep there is only one way to go.
Dont underestimate the premiership hangover or the Dogs desire to bounce back, no one apart from Centrals has gone back to back for a very long time

there is nothing to say that they wont play in the foxtel cup either. as far as i am aware they arent retired, they may play for another couple of seasons yet. and also as far as i am aware Centrals have not said that they will never play in the foxtel cup, just not as it is now. you never know there may be changes for 2013 or beyond both with the foxtel cup and with centrals which mean they do participate.

i really hope that i am there to witness the thud as good old holden there comes crashing back down to earth, from reading his posts you would think that the eagles have won 9 grannies in the last dedcade or something....

back on topic, i selfishly hope that the Gowans boys do retire soon ;) but i also hope that it is on their terms (not that there is a suggestion that it might be otherwise) as they have been fantastic for their club and the competition in general. i will also believe that they are retired not when i read it on a forum, as that rumour goes around every year, but when Centrals are playing finals and they havent been seen on field all year. (i actually suspect that they will stop when they get dragged off the field in a pine box, they will probably never stop!)

Ian Callinan.

A lot of people change their opinions on the twins once they get to meet them in person.

I ran into Jimmy this morning when walking the dog and he was taking out his horse like dog for a trot. I cant be bothered going back and reading this thread again so im not sure whats been said but....if injuries dont interfere with the pre season you will be seeing another year of the great J Gowans. I didnt ask about his brother but assume it might be something similar.

That's a cracker! The guy that looks like WHUFC lol.
Callinan, you may play for the Crows and have won a couple of flags with the Dogs, but you are always going to be the guy who looks like WHUFC on these boards!
Shows how well known and popular the boy is on this site ;)

Don't forget the Gowans' Roast is coming up in a couple of weeks and there are still tickets available through the club (RSVP by Monday 20/2/12 on 8255 2555) at $85 per person for a 3 course meal and 5 hour drinks package.

Guest speakers on the night will re-cap and share stories about their football journey and include their father, fellow players from Central over their journey, opposition players, coaches and even Umpires.

MC’d by Mark Soderstrom, it will be a very fun and enjoyable night for all in attendance. It should be one of the SANFL's most fun events of the year, but with a serious tribute side.

The event is being held at Findon to make it a central location for all people to attend and given the characters that are the Gowans Brothers (and their assistance with promoting the SANFL over the journey) the club sees this as an event not just for Doggies fans, but for anyone that follows SANFL footy.

There are already some people from other Clubs attending the night so it’s certainly open for everybody. Love them or hate them for their white line fever, the twins are certainly characters both on and off the field.
