Dictionaries generally only reflect common usage so their advice about spelling, pronunciation, and grammar, changes over time.
They don't claim to tell us what is right.

However, some dictionaries are more conservative than others, like me perhaps, which is why I stick with the Oxford.
(And prefer older editions from before the fad for "anything goes" began. )

Beat me dedja, I was about to add that.
The first name pronunciation also depends on origin.
It tends to be more like Bern'd in the UK or Oz and B'nard in Europe.
Two long syllables seem to get a guernsey in some parts of the US.
