I'm not sure of the exactly how much more it costs but I believe it is in the vicinity of ten times the cost.
I guess the obvious solution is to execute them promptly on conviction and not keep them in costly accommodation long - perhaps ban appeals? ;)

Exactly ... how can one type of murder be illegal and the other lawful and sanctioned by the State?

I'm not a fan of Capital Punishment, however in the case of the bloke I referred to, he's using valuable oxygen, he pre-meditated murdering his own child, he tortured his ex partner via social media and the like whilst he was in the process of murdering his child, he stabbed the child repeatedly, watched her bleed to death, then dumped her body, all the while still texting etc.

He showed no remorse, was only interested in how many years he was going to be put away for.

He got 33. He'll be 57 when he can get parole. I hope he's locked away for life. Never to see the outside world again.

It's easy to denounce something when it hasn't happened to you.

The proponents of capital punishment don't want to keep crims on death row. Rather, they want to drag the crims outside and disembowel them before the sound of the judge's gavel has ceased reverberating. The cost ain't to do with the punishment, but rather to do with the lengthy legal processes involved.

Serious question. Why is murdering an innocent child different from murdering an innocent adult?

I understand where the cost is placed but irrespective of that it is a cost, should we not have an appeals process?

I'm pretty sure that he will get his punishment in prison.

Not by the system but by his fellow inmates.

As soon as they find out what he did and that a young child was involved he might find himself in a clothes dryer on high or the like

I call this natural attrition ;)

If you ignore all the emotional & physical rationalisation involved, nothing.

If you look at reasoning for the murders case by case, plenty.

And your answer is ?

Capital punishment or not, if some low life parasite killed either of my kids, I would be smuggling a gun into court and shooting them myself. I would then happily do my life sentence and laugh at the Judge as he put me away with his pathetic powers of 'justice'.

Well, I figure if it did provide any form of closure, a lot more courtroom shootings would be going on.
