so either the quality of div 7 has increased remarkably in the last two years or there is truly a gap between div 6 and 7. mawson lakes will give us a fair idea of how big this gap is i rekon

Mate i wouldn't worry about Mawson Lakes, they got toweled up by 10 goals grand final day didn't they. I would rather judge it on SHOC, oh that's right, the sandbaggers are staying down.

but they were the second best team in the comp? i agree yes SHOC would have been a better measuring stick but mawson lakes are the next best comparison we have

If SHOC had the same team that I saw in the Grand Final all year they would have finished top 3 in Div 6 easily!

Do not be surprised if Div 6 this year is like Div 5 last year. May you all play well.

You are kidding right?

Well the bottom teams from Div 5 are playing one of the top teams from Div 7 this year in the same division so maybe Yank Man is not too far off the mark.

Required some heavy recruiting though.

The gap from D7 to D6 is a pretty big one.

I dunno about that Q. Glenunga go out in straight sets in the Div 7 finals and then next season make the Div 6 GF???

think Glenunga did some pretty heavy recruting last year to get to that stage. as well as CU who were also from div 7 who played finals

Q is Beffa still your captain mate? Surely if your club was to be serious he would be a B grader now?

I know he is a club legend but surely you have the depth and youth at your club to bring up a B grader to play?

He would offer the B grade so much with all his experience.

It may of been when you guys went up, but I think history has shown it has got a lot closer.
Not judging on one game, but when I watched the final between CU and Trinity last year I thought the standard was very poor!

I've played in sides that have jumped from Div 6 to Div 7 and vice versa.

I agree with Yank Man, I don't reckon the gap between a side that's won a flag or made a GF in D7 would be playing at too dramatically different a standard than those who have been relegated from D5. It also depends on the year, this year D5 was as close as it possibly can be, so the teams coming down are probably better than normal.

The main difference between D6 and D7 is not at the top where SHOC, Mawson Lakes and Angle Vale would have all been pretty competitive in D6, but rather the bottom 4 or 5 - those sides drop away in standard very, very quickly. Traditionally in D6 there have been no "easy" games, in D7 you can get 3, 4 or even 5.

So although the standard of the top teams in D7 would be pretty close to those in D6, the standard of the overall division is considerably less and in my opinion that fact makes the D7 to D6 jump one of the biggest jumps a side has to make in the SAAFL.

good post. rekon you are pretty spot on there morell. i can imagine how in div 7 it would be nice to come up against a flinders uni or modbury last year in the a grade and know you were gonna win by 20 goals. there were no such easy games in div 6 and i agree that the depth is probably the main difference between the two.

Nah, Beefa handed over the reigns at the end of 2010. Josh Davis and some bald fella are co-captains.

Beefa has still got it mate. Was our second in our goalkicking last year and probably assisted double the goals he kicked himself.

I can probably vouch for that, I just saw the rock on his fiancee's hand today and I can categorically say that Carey is probably broke right now

Impressive ;) Although, as big as it is, she probably deserves one twice that size for putting up with you

No doubt. The top 4 Div 7 clubs of 2011 would have spooked a few in Div 6. The only dissappointing thing is that in 2012 you don't get the opportunity to see just how good SHOC really are. Look, really appreciate the jibe and I have been around Div 1 and 2 most of my life, but you guys have genuine feels for your clubs, and up there at 1 @ 2, well most times the money talks, unless you have come thru the juniors, and even then sometimes the money talks.
