REB, seriously. Playing within the spirit of the game? That's drawing a long bow. If Australia decided to buck the system and NOT go with the DRS, we'd be seen as "traditionalists" and all the bullshizen that goes with it. India do it and they're 'not playing within the spirit of the game'. FFS, the umpires gave them out, and it is in Australia. It's not like they're likely to benefit from it over the course of the journey.

Like I said it's a grey area. All I know is that I would prefer we had the DRS today and the correct decision was made.

Plenty of counter punching posts
It is Boxing Day I suppose

PONTING
Im with REB , he is not the player he was
0 test hundreds in 2 years is evidence enough
3 fifties in his last 3 digs has convinced me even more he is below his best
When Ricky gets out for ziltch scores it happens
But when he cant convert half tons, when he should be cashing in, is prob even more disaPOiNTING
Quite simply he is playing more faulty shots then when at his peak
So the 50s he scored are now 20s
His 100s are now 50s
This is whats happened to the once mighty batsman
Hey, it might change, he may regain his brilliant best, who knows
But from I am seeing it aint gunna happen for him [hope im wronggggg ]

Just imagine he was not Ricky Ponting
This was a Phil Hughes or Brad Hodge playing like this
Would the Safooty fraternity be as forgiving ?

I'm sorry mal, but I'm really sick to death of you trying to sound overly intelligent, you're a smart bloke but stop trying to overdo it.

The bolded point is garbage.

He's 37, he's not at his peak, no one is arguing otherwise. But he's starting to get into some decent form, and after a nervous opening 10 minutes today he started to look really assured and confident.

Why bother?? Neither are legends of the game, whereas RT Ponting most certainly is.

Should have read the 3 digs that he got his three 50s in
But anyway, It can be argued if I am overly intelligent, but I do have reasonable eyesight and a reasonable memory
I remember why he was called the 2nd best since Bradman
I have not seen that for about 2 years though

I ask this question Redleg
Do you reckon Ricky is happy with his last 2 years of cricket ?
Admire the guy if you want for not giving up, and he is trying his darnest to become the dominant batsman we both know
But its not unreasonable for any of us to think that he is 37 years old, and a shadow of the player he was
__________________________________________________________________________________________________
AGE EVENTUALLY CATCHES UP TO ALL CRICKETERS
ITS NO DISGRACE TO GET OLD, AND YOUR TIME IS UP
OTHERWISE GREG CHAPPELL,STEVE WAUGH + ALAN BORDER WOULD BE BATTING 4 + 5 + 6 BELOW PONTING IN THIS TEST MATCH
__________________________________________________________________________________________________

In the eyes of many Australian cricketing followers, like myself, Ponting does not need to prove to me or anyone else he still hazit, that he can tear an attack apart
But unfortunately it appears he is needing to prove it to himself

Thats why you are sticking up for him
He is a legend
I aint gunna argue with that
If the selectors are giving him a lot of slack becoz of who he is, then thats the agenda

If you wanna havago at REB or me scrutinising a legend goforit, but please leave it at that

Of course, whilst everyone is drunk on the revenue India brings to world cricket this will never happen.

The first hint of India making threats on this tour (like they did last time they were here), let the ICC and CA call their pathetic bluff.

Again, pigs will fly ...

If the Hussey/Cowan decisions were done to Sehwag and Tendulkar the Indians would be halfway back to Delhi now with Gould and Erasmus branded 'racists' and 'cheats' like Steve Bucknor was in 2008

I've felt for some time the ICC need to really hang India out to dry and slap them with a (minimum) 12 month suspension and strip the IPL of ICC official status for bringing the game into disrepute but they'll never have the balls to do that.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

Never doubt the heart of a champion.

Not bad for a North Melbourne supporter...

As long as these three half-hundreds are the start of something consistent, by all means keep him in the team, but if he trails off into nothing, then seeya later Punter....

But gee whiz, wasn't it good to watch him play the pull shot...? Pure class.

2nd over. He was really struggling again this morning. Not sure if it would have been better if he was playing some shots and getting out. At least that is his natural game.

Hilfy seems to be enjoying his time in the middle. Good to see a tailender having a swing and not putting to much pressure on himself.

Good comeback from 6/214
Pity some of the top order dont show as much guts as Siddle and the rest of the tail.
Hopefully Sids can rip through them early now

333 on this deck was a good effort
When you consider the rope able decisions Cowan and Hussey received

Indians bowled a lot of short stuff at Pattinson in his 18*[54]
I wonder how he will react
This is the best time to get at those Indian batters with a 4 man attack, later in the series they might be too buggered
