Struggled to make it into the best players at South when he played for us, the lad has potential though and a move back to Vic could be just what he needs to take his game to the next level. Daniel Bass also cut from the AFL has elected to stay at South for 2012.

We were pretty keen to keep him. Money no issue, wanted to go home. Good luck to him.

Are Glenelg fans happy with their current movements.

Have lost last years B&F and been replace with an ex AFL player who looked barely interested last year.

On face value doesnt look great.

Also throw in their number 1 ruckmen and there number 1 KPP player there is starting to be alot of gaps that need to be filled.

I personally am not very happy with losing all the players we have - but we have to try and recruit some of whats left to recruit. If Davenport commits himself, then i'm sure he will be handy....would be good to get a couple more by the time the season starts too.

Club Email

The West Adelaide Football Club is pleased to announce Mark Mickan has accepted the role of Football Operations Manager, replacing Scott Turner after 5 years in the position. Scott had informed the Club of his plans to leave in July 2012 but due to unexpected work and family opportunities arising earlier than expected, Scott and his family will be moving to Vietnam in February.

Mark holds degrees in both Teaching and Psychology, together with being highly credentialed in the football industry.

Mark is a favourite past player at the Bloods, being initially recruited from Renmark in our Country Zone and making his SANFL debut in 1981. Mark, who captained the Club, played 134 games, winning the Club Best and Fairest four times, in addition to his AFL career with the Brisbane Bears and Adelaide Crows. Mark has also coached at SANFL Level.

Mark Mickan said ‘I am excited at the opportunity the West Adelaide Football Club has afforded me to fulfill my desire to change my long term career path in football from coaching to management. This role presents me with a chance to work with Senior Coach, Andrew Collins who is renowned for his professionalism, innovation and dedication to coaching. I am looking forward to learning from him and assisting Andrew and his support staff in any way possible to bring premiership success to the West Adelaide Football Club. A young, vibrant and talented list gives us and our supporters great reason for optimism going forward. I trust that I will be able to contribute in a very positive manner to the Club that provided me with so many exciting opportunities as a player.’

Paul Sperling, President said ‘Our Board is really excited at the appointment of Mark to the critical role of Football Operations Manager. To see the return of a great former West Adelaide player, who is admired and respected by the national football community, into this pivotal position is outstanding for our Strategic Plan over the next 5 to 10 years. The West Adelaide fraternity welcomes Mark back to the Club where it all started for him as a player from our cherished Riverland zone. We all wish him well in his new career direction of Football Administration.’

Mark will commence on Monday 9th January.
