Ben Gogel should be playing Reserves at Sturts.

Matt Gogel moved away for work but is now living in Adelaide and is a slight chance of pulling the Blue on again.

Watson and K.Hall have relocated from P.A as they were not getting chance to play as much as they wanted in there key position, both are in talks with Imperials and are still a chance to play, dont hold me too it but i have heard if they are not in the League team in first few weeks they wish to come play with mates Harrowfield, Kennys, Girdham, Honner, Tyler, Wait etc and they will add to the E.P players we have currently, also very good friends with Joel Kay so that may make it more of an option than Reserves SANFL footy.

Losing Sam Redden will hurt Imperials, very underrated player out side of Imps. in 2011 he steped up to a new level and proved he is capable of being a star A grade footballer, he is moving back home to Jamestown with his partner.

Is that correct that MENINGIE is paying MOTLOP $40,000 to coach and an extra $20,000 to play sounds abit steep to me

If true, thats crazy money.

Not sure if I believe it could be true, perhaps $40k is what he's getting in total with $20k for both playing and coaching.

I reckon Motlop would be getting that type of money. Why else would he be going to Meningie. Certainly not for a genuine desire to see Meningie become a long term power in the league. In know players who have been offered $1500 to play and if Meningie play 20 games including finals that would add up to 30k. I know it has caused great interest in the league and it will be great for local supporters but it could well be the beginning of the end for Meningie. At least Motlop will come out of it well!!

Thats a fair point.

I reckon if you are going to spend that much money, you would be better off getting someone better suited to a player/coach role, someone with a bit of discpline. Motlop would appear to not be suited at all.

What ridiculous comments, truly, if Meningie wanna chase a player that has just retired from AFL football, not SANFL, to play in the RMFL  then good for them. The bloke has got more ability than anyone that has set foot on an RMFL ground, and chuck in Andrew McLeod aswell, bloody hell, good luck to Meningie, the place will be a buzz, I'm just spewin we couldn't secure em, got close but not close enough. Good on em for having the balls to do it!!!

Reminds me how much of a narrow minded community we have in our lil country leagues.

Perhaps you doubters should try and have a conversation with Daniel and Andrew before you post your ignorant opinions. And we all know that the country football market is inflated, i think someone with over 100 AFL Games, has the right to set a $1000+ price, players that have achieved alot less in football have asked for the same.

I hope he goes well, I'm just expressing a view, and I'm not the only only one who has done so, that he can be undisciplined, I'm not sure that thats such an extraordinary thing to post given his suspensions in the NT league and suspensions, including club imposed, at Port.

If he's a success as a coach I would be happy to post on here to say well done to him and Meningie FC, but I am entitled to an opinion that he could be a risky selection as a coach. As a player alone I agree he's definitely a boom recruit for the Bears.

Well said big fella, I totally agree with you, there's always some people that no matter what the situation may be they've gotta be negative about it.

No matter how good a player Motlop is he is still an untried coach and that does make it a risky appointment. The true test of his coaching will come if the team gets flogged a couple of times. During the middle of winter the 2 hour+ drive will seem a very long way. I hope it works out for all involved but something tells me that when the hype disappears Daniel will realise he has put his hand up for a really tough gig and needs to prepare himself to do some really hard yards to make Meningie a successful team.

I heard on TripleM a few months back that Andrew Jarman thought Daniel Motlop would be the first Aboriginal AFL coach. that is coming from a bloke who is one of the smartest footy minded people in SA.

No one bagged Chris Ladhams for not winning a Premiership this year, with rumors of handing out over $100,000 in 2011

Mannum have handed out Hunreds of thousands in last 4 years and haven't won a Grand Final,

I say get of Motlops back as he will have a tougher job than these 2 clubs had!

I heard from someone in the district yesterday, Motlop $30,000 and Mcloud 6 games at $5,000 per game.

cockshell is unlikely to play for mannum, have not heard any clayton rumours for next season. as for rudiger that is not a done deal and he still may suit up for the roos next year.

Let's judge Motlop after the season, not before he's even taken a training session. By all reports, he's a really popular guy which can only be positive for Meningie. All those casting doubts, ask yourself the question on whether you'd be disappointed if he was playing at your club? I'd much prefer Motlop in the RMFL then another league. It can only be good for the comp in gaining more exposure and assist in attracting more quality players like we've seen over the past 3-4 years!

Its also good to be talking about the smaller clubs tryin something big to get better. Meningie do need help, they need numbers and if they dont get it this could be their last roll of the dice, over the next 3 years that is. Tailem were here 2-3 years ago with considering joining the Mallee. The RMFL has gotta be proactive in trying to sustain at a minimum a 7 league club.

I'd like to see some fringe players from some of the bigger clubs consider a change to a Meningie or Tailem Bend and for the RMFL to look at some exemptions around points in that regard, and that regard only. It could be something that keeps blokes playing footy and keeps them in our league, rather than ducking back and forth to the Mallee etc.

Few years ago Mark Williams said (when asked) that Daniel Motlop would make the best coach out of the current playing group. I questioned this with a former power team mate now power staff member who said, yep the stuff he comes out with as far as football knowledge and reading the game is amazing and far from what you see on TV.

In saying that i cant stand Motlop as a player

Remove the profile of the man and lets look at the break down.
Does anyone know how many points the Bears have to play with?
Daniel Motlop = 5
Andrew McLeod (if true) = 4 (NEAFL)
Elijah Ware = 3 (SFL)

Total = 12.

They wouldnt have too many more to play with I imagine and on top of that I hear they have lost a chunk of their midfield players.

Can anyone confirm so we can look at the bigger picture?

By the way McLeod will not train, Noodles is not planning on training and Motlop will not be in much during the preseason and is planning to attend one training a week. Not necessarily a bad thing as if they have a heap of players in Adelaide then they can train together under his coaching there which a lot of clubs have done in the past - not sure its effectiveness?
