Souths have signed Jess Rivers, Tom Payne and Allan Margatich. Know its old news but didnt read anything on here about it.

Boof has been talking premierships in dec......... Would have to b raging favourites but the footy gods frown upon premature premiership talk.
It takes real courage to wear PURPLE!!!!!

Yes Yes oldish news . . . herd there names were being mentioned as signed sealed delieved once boof was appointed coach. its always a flirt with danger talkin premierships anytime of year but id say his prediction wouldnt be far off the mark souths made grand final 2010 . missed out by a kick last year. as far as rumors go appear to have not lost to much. topped up the squad abit more and with there 'core' group of lads have been together played together for a while now and that core being around the 25-28 mark are peaking or not far off. would say souths premiership window is well and truely opened.

in other news there is a whisper going are of abit of a time worp happening scotty 'meat axe' feltus to leave the safc bulldogs and head west over the bridge for the hawks. 1995 relived?? if true would be a forward line and a half. feltus,page,h.warren,coultard,t.warren,j.warren

bit early for that sorta talkin aint it???

souths could be seen as massive underachievers their record since 1999

1999 - Lost GF
2000 - Premiers
2001 - Lost GF
2002-03 - bottom half
2004 - Lost GF
2005 - Lost GF
2006 - Premiers
2007 - went out in straight sets after being top all yr
2008 - Bottom half
2010 - Lost GF after losing 1 game all year
2011 - lost to eventual premiers in OT

not the best of records

fair bit of rot comes from some of you blokes, no coach worth his salt believes a premiership is won by december, and if that was the case i doubt he would have his charges out 3 times a week in november...and as for the record i would suggest its a reasonable effort for a club that doesn't take the easy way out and throw cash at problems

South will not win the flag, you can quote this come September 2012.

Amatuer country sport....training 3 times a week now = burnout

What problems are you talking about?? I personally dont see a problem with clubs offering players money to play for their respective club. Isn't your club doing just that this year??? or are Horner, Rivers, Payne, Margatich etc playing for nothing? Also heard Souths offered Collins from West a fair pay packet to get him across but he declined.

no problem with clubs offering money to get blokes to come in, some teams need to do this to survive, and many players deserve this. But very few clubs can lay claims to promoting footballers coming through the junior grades as south and to a lesser extent west can...and lets not kid ourselves some clubs don't bother with this and just splash the cash

All comes back to numbers mate, if you havent got the cattle you have to look else where to fill your stock. Souths have been lucky to have some very good local footballers come through their ranks and be good enough to go on and play A grade football, but some clubs dont have this luxury as their kids aren't up to A grade standard. As you said some clubs have to do this to survive and be competative, I bet if Souths were as financial as West, Centrals & Port they would have been "splashing the cash" around aswell.

Doesn't matter how much cash you have if you can't beat the points. Centrals only have 10 thru to Lions 15. Not many at 3pts a player (pretty much) if you lose a few to other clubs yourself!

A former west and centrals coach told me that safc run there club how a country footy team should be run.. being 'smart' with there money and only going after 'bigfish' with dollars as in key position players and 'elite' country midfielders. not paying every man and his dog as in flankers backpocketers etc. which you can get fill up with players that have came up through your colts. and this point system is getting a ruff rep. really wont be that bad for the comp. considering i see the last few seasons in the sgl the under 18s comp has been rather close with usually 5 of the 6 teams around the mark so majority of the sgl comp should be pretty even if it works how its ment to once you recuit someone those points you have used on the player will drop the more seasons they play for the club the less points there worth? so should be good for clubs.

Well our coach coached us and Centrals before so if him your talking about dont worry he gos for any fish, doesnt matter. Southies might do what you say but why dont they want him then? I dont mind him as a coach but Craig was better coach. Can he coach a team without big spend up?

Kremo is Prentas hey? Cant say I know much about him but ol mate neighbor says he was a good coach but did the same thing as hayes to get sucess- buying up and poaching.
Anyways, with Nicko, Rooster and others now staying for Rays handouts we might only lose a few like Bretto,Kroesy,Bowey. South maybe losing Collins is the only player I have heard about.Getting Horner in and Brushnahan,Heron back and the others talked about on here (markatich and Rivers ) they look like they will be strong. Centrals maybe losing Kenny,Quigly,Jacksons,Wilson, any others out for them or in ? (Kroes?)
