First Class Cricket Talk (International and State)

The Redbacks will not improve in the next couple of years and I think that this has little to do with the current coach/administration.

We do not have any ready to go First Class players within our Grade system. The future is not all glum though there are young players there, but it is not simply like AFL (lets get games into young players). There needs to be the experienced players around the young guys and the SACA needs to invest massive resources into grade/Futures League cricket (this may have been said before on this site ;) )

It sound terrible but its 2014 for us Redback fans, we simply do not have a talented enough group to challenge for a Shield, but there are players who do have the talent and if they are looked after I think we can be a strong side in a couple of seasons with players such as:
Cooper (CAP)
Lyon
Thornton
Mennie
George
Smith
Richardson
Haberfield
Head
Opie
Delaney
Dougall

I would like to see a step next season with Tom Cooper assume the captaincy. He has international (ODI/FC) experience and the potential to play Test cricket for Australia, if not lead the Redbacks for many season...start it now!!!

I hope thats Kelvin and not James Smith Brod?

Kelvin currently sitting on 462 runs @77 for the U/17 carnival.... a lazy 170 odd against NSW (the team to beat)!

It will be interesting to see how this lad develops over the next 3 or 4 years. He's obviously showing a skill level beyond his current age.

Hopefully there's sufficient mechanisms put in place to continue his development so that he's pushing for a spot with SA by the time he's 17/18.

Throw him in the 16W and they've got about 8 players then. He's better off in the 16R now, hopefully he gets promoted this week.

I can imagine the parents of his team mates when he does go up...

I work with a guy who plays A grade at port adelaide and there is talk of him playing C or D grade by the end of the season.

How closely do you guys follow grade cricket in SA?
Surely Tom Moffat is right up there with future Redback players, his grade form this year and previous has been outstanding. Would have thought he wouldn't be far off getting a shield gig at present.
Any reason he hasn't been given a mention?

I'm not happy about this article from AdelaideNow. Love you Boof, but .....

 http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/cri ... 6224729220

South Australia's Dan Christian is tipped to follow former mentor Darren Lehmann to Queensland

"DAN Christian's Big Bash appearance for Brisbane on Friday night could be his first of many for the Sunshine State with the all-rounder tipped to defect to Queensland in the Sheffield Shield next season.
Christian put up plenty of resistance during the Heat's seven-wicket loss to the Sydney Sixers, hitting two sixes on his way to 32 runs off just 22 balls and taking the prized wicket of Brad Haddin as he finished with 1-20.

While Christian is in line for a baggy green call-up to take on India in the first Test on Boxing Day in Melbourne, it's believed he's also eyeing off a reunion with former South Australian coach Darren Lehmann in Queensland.

The pair have a close relationship. Lehmann mentored Christian in South Australia and won a $1 million bidding war to sign him up to the Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League before bringing him to Brisbane for the Twenty20 Big Bash."

if he goes good luck to him.

Well maybe because we have given him the chance to become the cricketer he is today by handing him a lifeline?? His career was at a standstill before Marsh plucked him (much to the dismay of most redback supporters at the time) from nsw grade cricket. Not only that but we perservered with him in all forms even when he wasn't setting the world on fire.

Will be more than disappointed if he goes.

Well, if he was happy to leave NSW cricket because it was too hard to crack that side, I doubt he'd show the loyalty to SA to stick around when the ship is sinking.

Exactly
Only so much room at home for wooden spoons. Hard decision to make, play for a side around the mark at shield level and boost your chance of playing for Australia or stay at a mediocre side that realistically wont win the shield in the near future and at the same time diminish your chances of getting a baggy green, when does that next flight to Brisbane leave.

There should be loyalty when your stuck in Sydney grade cricket and a side says come over and try your luck here and 2 years later he is on the Cusp of a boxing day debut

I reckon there's far less in this story than the media are making of it. BBL has created a situation where this sort of speculation is possible, but that doesn't mean any of the moves mooted by the press will actually happen.

The same loyalty shown to the the best gloveman in Australia?
Told he was no longer required and was being replaced by a dud from interstate.
Or the same loyalty the SACA afforded Boof and Dizzy.
Loyalty extends both ways
