Vettori is such a good cricketer! But the rest of this game has been really sub standard.

BAD LIGHT BAD SOLUTION ?
Bad light has cricket authorities Stumped
It has been argued a red ball is not visible enough under stadium lights
Fair enough
The solution ?
How about we start Test Cricket 30 -60 minutes earlier
10-00 starts shouldnt affect the players preparations that much
Pitches would have more juice [games could start at 8-00 o'clock in Adelaide] and help the bowlers at the start of each session
The downside is the games finish earlier, and workers and school kids would miss out on viewing time

Too many sh1t house cricketers for my liking, in fact, the only player that is decent is Vettori and he is the only player from their side i enjoy watching.

Just caught the end of the broadcast as I came in the door from work and from what I've seen not a bad start by our boys but as usual, Vettori strikes back!!

Good to see Pattinson get his first wicket all be it via a bit of luck which is what a bowler always needs to get wickets. Lyon's delivery to get rid of that spud Williamson was a good ball and well caught by Usman. Starc's two wickets, short outside off stump :? was due to the batsman's poor execution more than anything else (I felt for McCullum because I always enjoy watching him bat but Ryders just a overweight hack) but he'll take them. They showed Vettori's innings and it looked like he's cut and pulled Starc a bit if I'm not correct?

Starc has bowled far too short today IMO. Lucky to have his 2 wickets and has been expensive really. I'm sure there would be some nerves in his defence. I like him.

I reckon Vettori does his most damage against other countries
6 hundreds
22 half centuries
Thats a very good record over a long period of time for a lower order batsman

Vettori has not made a ton against AU[bear in mind he has played against a very good AU ,in his career]
Made some handy scores against Australia
But in the main, Australia has kept him fairly quiet compared to other nations

One thing he is
A very smart cricketer, makes the most of his limitations , and extracts every inch of ability with bat and ball against AU

New Zealand lack that exceptional gun batsman that is feared. I'm talking of the Kallis, Tendulkar type of player who has an amazing record that keeps churning out runs. But what they do have:
Ryder, McCullum and Taylor who can take a match away from an opposing team within two sessions with some dazzling stroke play.

The downside to the stroke play is that when it fails they can lose 3/0 within a couple of overs, and put their team on the back foot.

They also have Brownlie, Vettori, Young, Bracewell and Southee, who can make useful contributions down the order. An impressive lower order, with only Chris Martin as a genuine bunny.

Australia have issues in the aggression regard also. I expect we will be batting in the first session tomorrow, and with Hughes and Warner, we could be 2/0 in the first over...

Should be interesting...

One thing that stuck out like cows balls today
AU missed the 5th bowler [Watto]
If the current tyro attack plays as a unit in the 2nd Test, they need a 5th bowler support act
The track was dynamite today, its unlikely the fastys will get it better for the rest of the summer
There4 I conclude
If that fragile Wattostring is still buggered fro the 2nd test, then I would play , wait for it, Danny Christian or Mitch Marsh[or even East Coast Smith]
That would mean one of Warner, Hughes, Khawaja, Ponting would miss out

Bring in Smiffy so WCP can go friggin batshit. I thought today's cricket was highly watchable. McCallum took the game up to the rookie attack who ended up fighting back well. From what I saw Lyon bowled well and then Vettori and Brownlie fought back with a fighting partnership. There have been far worse days of cricket served up by a less than stellar aussie side and the Kiwi's in past seasons...think back to the Adelaide clunker when Andrew Jones and Martin Crowe batted all day for bugger all when Reid went down for the one hundredth time.

The Kiwis are ranked eight and we've got five out. What do you expect?

Quite liked the way Starc got McCullum. Sure it was short, but I think having been on the end of some McCullum strokes he pulled it down short, knowing he would go after it and angled it in just enough to cramp McCullum and cause the false stroke.

I didn't see the whole spell, but that looked like smart bowling to me.

Was it as smart as 1993 ?
A rampaging Booney, opening the batting
had to face a wily old fox bowling his off spinners during his innings
Booney faced a very smart over
.....1
to survive the first 5 balls, and then produce a freak single would have been one of Booneys greatest career highlights
